Good post. I was too lazy to look that up.

I'd count the 3 North Carolina teams.

So really we're talking New Orleans, Memphis, Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, Raleigh, Jacksonville . You could say Houston but no one likes those teams so it's moot.

That's bullshite about Louisiana being alone Yankees fans. Mostly older people in LA like the Yankees for Guidry(sp?)

My age group is 3-1 braves fans to any other team.

I'd say braves im a die hard braves fan from Louisiana. Grew up in the Hammond/ ponchy area and would say most of the people I knew were Braves fans. I do have to say a lot of my college friends are from New Orleans and they like the Yankees.

Saints actually have a pretty wide area stretching from Outside of Houston to Georgia. Do you consider New Orleans a small market team?

Georgia isn't changing. Atlanta might be, but the state itself is the epitome of the south.

By south I mean confederate, traditional south. No Dallas, Tampa, or Miami teams.

Wtf?

Florida is the deep South & 3rd state to secede from the Union & Texas wasn't far behind. They are as 'traditional ' Confederate as one can get.

What Florida team would be more popular?

What if you include St Louis and Texas?

I'm not buying that's the only reason. It indicates on the map that when people don't have their own team to root for, they either default to the Yankees or the Red Sox. Maybe Guidry is the reason why Louisianans favor Yankees over the Red Sox but Guidry doesn't explain the supposed strong support in the Mississippi Delta that the Yankees have, according to the map.

Alaska is the best example of the default theory because there's no pro team in sight and everyone seems to pick the Yankees or the Red Sox.

I think most Louisianans primarily care about LSU baseball and any energy they have for Major League Baseball is channeled into LSU.
