Exactly. Sour grapes.

It really depends on how you rank them. How many GM's are better than him?

But the evidence shows that they didn't really play that well. They remained healthy, which I give them and houston full credit for. But to say they played well? Nah. The numbers don't bear that out.

They definitely didn't play 34% of a team's cap space well. If you think they did, well

Depth? They have Gordon and Lou Williams off the bench. Ideally they'd unload Gordon and another piece for a star player, but no two players on that team are really worth it to a trade partner.

They're in that NBA purgatory. Not good enough to win a championship, not bad enough to get help via the draft and no viable trade assets.

They're not in NBA purgatory at all. Their bench was Nene, Gordon, Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell and Sam Dekker. That's a solid bench. Dekker and Harrell were great during the regular season and are good young players. D'Antoni shortened the bench for the playoffs and Dekker was injured and just coming back for the Spurs series.

They will look to add a player during free agency. They have the flexibility to make that happen.

They also have the rights to Sergio Llull in Spain and a draft and stash 20 year old 7'2" PF from China in Zhou Qi.

They have young talent, veterans, and flexibility to make moves.

They are not in NBA purgatory at all. You just aren't familiar with the team.

Gordon played well and was probably Houston's second best player. Come on.

Did you predict HOU was going to win this series?
I did but it was a pick 'em for me. I said Rockets in 7 but it's not like I was confident they were gonna beat the Spurs.

I thought it would be a competitive series though, which it was.

I was thinking this as well. At the trade deadline, the rockets were already pretty thin at big men. And Ryan Anderson is one of the softest and worst defensive bigs in the league. What does Morey do? He goes out and gets Lou Williams...
He was trying to get Andrew Bogut and he cleared the space to do it. But Bogut went to Cleveland. Could have had Lou Williams AND Andrew Bogut.

It seems people here think whatever players a team has is he exact players the GM wanted.

Sometimes you have to take what you can get and you can't get what you want.

He had a PER of 13.1. 2nd lowest PER of his career (His usage rate was at his career average btw)

His FG% and 3PT% were down from his career averages.

He had a NetRTG of -4

His Box +/- was the 2nd lowest of his career.

Both his overall FG% and his 3pt FG% were the lowest they've been in 4 seasons.

I mean, that definitely needs to change if Houston wants to take the next step.

Exactly. Gordon hit over 37.2 percent of his threes. That could be better but he did what they needed. Maybe Beverly is your second best player. Maybe it's Ariza. Maybe it's Clint. Regardless, they're all role players.

They'll get someone. This is a fun offense to play in and the players like the coach. They're not in bad shape. I'd rather be 3rd in the league with flexibility than most of the other teams with no hope.

60% of your cap space for the next 3 years is taken up by two role players with bad injury history and a turnover machine who's game doesn't transfer well to the playoffs and basically disappears in almost every elimination game he's played in.

Congrats.

Morey has tried and failed to land the big fish in FA every year for the past 3 years. Doubtful that changes anytime soon.

Who do they get? Another role player?

I'm looking at the free agent list and don't see anyone that will help them improve dramatically.

he needs to fill out and work on his hands but he is still really raw. He is going to be a stud, IMO

Lossing Nene was a killer. Harden and Ryno are awful options for long stretches on the post vs Pau & LMA.

need to find someone to replace Nene in the offseason an hope herrall/dekker makes a big leap.

If there is one thing I'm not at all worried about, it's the Rockets cap situation. If there is one thing Morey is the best in the league at, it's never getting locked in to a bad situation and always having the flexibility to make moves. It's one of the things that makes him a good GM. He's always thinking ahead with every single move he makes.

They fit that system really well and both earned their money this year.

Yea I'm happy to see them choke but 34% of the cap proved to be worth it with the year that team just had. This thread should be embarrassing

Well that can't get really anyone of note this offseason.

Cap is gonna be around ~100 million and 83 million is being split between Ariza/Williams/Gordon/Anderson/Harden/Beverly.

They have 17 million to split up between 9 players.

I think he'll be fine.

I know you seriously wouldn't prefer a locker room cancer and a guy who can't stay healthy as your twin towers. The Rockets have a good base to start with. The Pels have no hope, no shooting, no coach.
