from the commissioner himself
quote:

Let me go back to a conversation we've had already. I think for us to expand we need to be resolved in Tampa and Oakland in terms of their stadium situations. As much as I hope that both Oakland and Tampa will get stadiums, I think it would be difficult to convince the owners to go forward with an expansion until those situations are resolved.

Once they're done, I think we have some great candidates. I know the mayor of Montreal has been very vocal about bringing baseball back to Montreal. It was not great when the Expos left. The fact of the matter was baseball was successful in Montreal for a very long time. Charlotte is a possibility. And I would like to think that Mexico City or some place in Mexico would be another possibility.

Also should be noted that the Dodgers and Padres may end up playing a regular season series in Mexico city sometime in the near future

Wonder if they'll be the expos again and if the nationals would give them back their history

It'd be nice to have another team towards the southeast. Don't know how many players would want to live in Mexico.

Would charlotte support a MLB franchise?

It seems like Mexico city isn't an awful place to live

Could be completely wrong though

I'd think Nashville or charlotte both could. Braves FO would be very much against it.

I seem to recall there was a team in Montreal once. It didn't go so well.

I'm sure there is nice places to live, but I'm not sure how many people want to live in a country with a different language when the rest of the teams are in the U.S or Canada. I'd imagine this Mexican team would try to cater to the latino superstars.

would be a change for American players but not so much for the Latin players

Mexico city presents it's own set of problems that id rather have them avoid, like distance and the cultural differences, but it seems like the league has decided on it already

I don't see why the Nationals wouldn't especially since Loria isn't the owner

I'm curious what division they'd put them in because it'd make one uneven again like the old NL Central/Al west.

Mexico City is 2,000 feet higher than Denver. Good luck ever signing a pitcher.
