FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi tweeted earlier that the Mets and Brewers “have had preliminary talks” about a trade involving one or more of Milwaukee’s position players, and now Marc Carig of Newsday is reporting that those negotiations are centering around veteran third baseman Aramis Ramirez.
Ramirez is hitting just .213/.257/.390 in 48 games this season for the Brewers and he’s making $14 million in the final year of a four-year, $46 million contract

This comes from Ken Rosenthal’s Facebook account …
The Philadelphia Phillies are ready to trade closer Jonathan Papelbon. They are willing to pay a significant portion of his contract. The only question is how the story ends.
The Phils have engaged in recent trade discussions with both Blue Jays and Cubs about Papelbon, according to major-league sources. No deal with either club appears close; the talks are at an “impasse,” one source said.
more to come...

Big question to me is if the Cubs will decide to be buyers and trade one or more of the young infielders.

Cole Hamels to the Astros.
That's the coolest rumor I've seen.

They could also work a deal with several clubs for a bullpen arm or two without giving up anyone of importance.

If I am Jocketty I unload Chapman and Cueto. They won't resign for the dollar figure the Reds will offer. Plus season is in tank, so get why the getting is good.

Sounds like Amaro is still asking for the world for everyone they have. Ridiculous

Per catfish 62:
Braves will continue to look to sign pitchers coming off tommy john surgery in efforts to field the first team with a roster entirely comprised of pitchers with broken arms.

I thought Cueto would be a great #1 for a young team like Houston.
But there is NO CHANCE Walt deals with Luhnow. They had a huge falling out in St.Louis, and St.Louis kept Luhnow over Jocketty. It got real ugly between the 2, if split the org, the luhnow guys vs Walts guys.

Why wouldn't he? His job is pretty much on the line. It only takes one team to bend over.

Pride
2 Teams Walt will not be trading with, is Houston and St.Louis. MO and Luhnow are the reason he's in Cinccy.
It is really bitter, and last i heard, there is still a lot of resentment from Walt, especially for those 2.
It could happen, but man, i think it would be tough for Walt to swallow his pride. He will have plenty of suitors for Cueto.

Does KC have the farm to trade for Chapman? If they got him they win that division. Jocketty would send him to KC just to dig at STL.

I expect some Cardinal rumors to start heating up.
Especially with Holliday injured, and the extent won't be known for a couple of weeks. He could be Done for the season.
Just don't see them going the Grichuk/Jay/Howard route to end the season.

I'm not sure KC has the prospects for that kind of deal.

Was talking about Amaro.
With that said, if either of those teams were to pay a premium price for Cueto, a good GM shouldn't let his pride get in the way of a good baseball deal. Both teams have the prospects to make a deal work.

I expect Baltimore and Boston to both deal with starting pitching. One of them should land Cueto or Cole

Bundy and Gausman could certainly use a change of scenery. They do such a crappy job developing pitchers.

If he backs himself into a corner right at the deadline he will either have to hold onto them and not start the rebuild, which would probably result in him losing his job, or trade them below value and frick themselves going forward.

He has nothing to lose. His saving grace is getting maximum value for both players. How he's handled dealing Hamels and Papelbon is probably one of the few things he's done right the past few years. A team will get desperate and pay up. They're not looking for a fair deal and they shouldn't be. They may have to settle for one, but you don't just show them your hand and take the first "fair" deal out there. As we approach the deadline, more and more offers are going to come in. It's bad business to not see all the options that will be available to them.
