When was the last time a Dodgers starter went 7 innings? Kershaw 2 months ago?

and it's a good thing that we have other pitchers out of our pen who are also having really good seasons right now

bunch of dudes with high differentials between ERA and FIP

McCarthy pitching well alleviates some need for a starter. If Kershaw never heals its not going to matter anyway

That is a huge strain on the pen right there. It really doesn't matter if Kershaw can't come back but still...

The Dodgers pen has the 5th best fip in baseball. Both yimi and liberatore have fips under 3 to go with Kenley

I'll predict this is a potential deal for Fedde straight up based on what the Nats boards are saying.

ETA: wow, I didn't realize DC had THE best bullpen ERA in baseball. Making a strength stronger is interesting.

Right. It's something we need to address by getting starting pitching. That's why we are being linked to starters right now

Yea the bullpen is having a good season. That's all fine and dandy, but the playoffs are a different beast. You need to have a guy that can come in late and blow people away. We don't have that.

You also need someone to get us to the point where we can have a guy come in late and blow people away. We don't have that

I've already agreed with you about the starter. That's priority 1. But our bullpen hasn't been trustworthy in jams in a playoff series. That's all I'm saying. I've seen it happen too many times in the past few seasons.

And I have also agreed that we could use someone like chapman. Everyone could. Just that we don't need him like we do someone like archer. If we are going to make a trade involving high profile prospects, it will be for a starter. That's all I was saying

Still Gardner gives you a leadoff hitter and a solid defender in center

Nats will make a CF trade no doubt. I think they might call CWS about Eaton before Gardner though. Some fans like Charlie Blackmon but I think he's a Coors creation.

i think in many ways you have to give the dodger front office some recognition for this year. look at not only the amount of injuries, but whom has suffered them, and then look at our record. they absolutely have advantages over others in being able to make low risk, high reward deals. but its impressive how the team is sitting at 11 games over 500 and with a 2 game cushion in the WC with all of the personnel issues weve had to deal with this year

Personally I would take Gardner before Eaton, he has been healthier and from a numbers standpoint better offensively, but I am biased

Anything is better than Ben Revere dude. This is the worst CF I've ever seen and I watched several years of Nyger fricking Morgan.

Can't believe he has gone from being a decent player to being this horrible

Eaton is mediocre defensively in Center. He's top shelf in right. That said, he always played center surrounded by cement-foots in left and right, so he'd probably be a lot better with capable corner guys around him.
He's another one on a great contract- signed for another several years at modest rate. Other teams may not want to pay for that value in July when long term budget and team building aren't the priority.
