MLB to officially implement a pitch clock

And who enforces this rule? The homeplate ump?

It is already part of his responsibilities to get the batter into the batter's box. And he can allow the pitcher to throw whenever he deems "ready" to play ball. He simply points to the pitcher.

ETA Clocks in baseball are Un-American.

how many pitchers are we talking about?

That’s a question that I don’t know the answer to. My heart says 3. A starter a mid relief or setup and a closer but my mind could be changed.

As far as the shift I just believe it to be against the spirit of the game and eliminating it would eventually cause the 3 true outcomes guys go extinct which would be good for the sport.

That’s the problem they don’t stand up to the players and enforce the rules like they should. I agree with you. If the umps did their jobs none of this would be necessary and we wouldn’t be having this conversation

All of the players knew this was coming if they didn’t pick up the pace of play but they still just had to take their sweet arse time getting ready.

I’m usually on the players sides but they could have prevented this if they wanted to

How many violations have been given in the minors?

I go to 30ish MiLB games a year and it hasnt done anything to the pace. The pitcher will be standing on the mound, the clock hits 0 and nothing happens.

baseball is serious about picking up the pace of play, they'll regulate batters leaving the box. No walking around adjusting your gloves and taking practice swings between pitches.

Pretty sure this makes up 90 percent of a baseball broadcast.

t’s not the time of the game, it’s the pace.

Exactly. It doesn’t matter if the game is 3 hours or 3:15, what matters is all the downtime between pitches.

If they want to shorten games, the only thing that’d really make a difference is lessen the time between innings. Of course that can’t happen.

Theoretically they could make it work. They can superimpose ads on the field like the NFL does with the yellow line, as well as selling 10-15 second ads that can be run on a split screen, like the NFL does with a 30 second timeout or during a review.

They don’t need all of these clocks. They just need umpires to control the flow. Why install clocks to regulate it? Just give umps the authority to speed it along.

Relief pitchers should only be removed after

(1) ending an inning, if they enter with less than 3 outs

(2) facing 3 batters, minimum

(3) allowing a run

(4) getting ejected

Nothing kills a game like righty-righty 1 out, LOOGY enters to face lefty and walks him, righty back in for the next out.

Pat Neshek said in a recent interview the players are ready to strike and sit multiple years if needed. Talk about a killer to the sport if they did this

The shift has been around since baseball began, so why kill it?

"Right now, there's going to be a strike, 100 percent, after '21. I won't be around, so I don't have a horse in the race. I don't want to see a strike.

"But there's always kind of been that handshake agreement where we're still going to value the older guys and not just totally [expletive] on them. And that's what's happening. So, I think you're going to have to burn the whole system down and start with that.

"[Owners] have a lot more to lose than us, I think. The players have been talking about, for the last couple of years, putting money aside and I think we're going to be ready for a fight. We're willing to go multiple years and I don't know if [owners] are willing to sacrifice."

This. They are about to F up my game because of a bunch of ADD millennials. MLB needs to look at NASCAR as an example of alienating your fanbase by jerking the rules around.
