players avoiding arbitration

quote:

Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have reached a tentative agreement to bring the extra-innings ghost runner back for the 2022 season, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Additionally, they have agreed to expand active rosters from 26 to 28 players this season until May 1. The league’s 30 owners need to vote next week to officially ratify the conditions, but Sherman writes that only a simple majority is needed and the provisions aren’t expected to have any issue passing.

Jack Falherty's arb hearing is today I think. He's pissed because he feels like the Cardinals leaked medical info ahead of the hearing to sway the results.

He's always pissed about something. It's tiring honestly.

It does seem to be a habit of his. I've grown tired of him too honestly.

I'd have no problem, putting him into a big blockbuster deal for a package of young top prospects. He doesnt want to play here, so get the big haul, and he's worth it.

No he's not.

The player that was interviewed and asked about it was Ryan Helsley. Helsley is an Indian from Oklahoma. He was asked his opinion and gave it. He didn't seek out an audience on it.

I thought it was chickenshit of the writer to make him a target during that.

Oops. You are correct. Thanks for clarifying. Now I will thoroughly wipe my last post.

As part of the rule adjustments the league and Union created the "Ohtani rule" yesterday. You can have your SP be the DH in the lineup and they are allowed to remain the DH for the entire game regardless of how long they pitch.

I like this.

This is the Player-DH rule that the NCAA uses to keep their best hitter in the lineup regardless of any defensive changes.

NFHS(high school) also adopted this rule in 2020.

I'm not a fan. If you pull someone from the game, they should be completely out of the game. If they want to keep Ohtani in the lineup have him move to the OF like he's done before.

Disagree.

If your SP is also the best hitter, this allows you to keep him in the game on offense even after he' s done on the mound. Thus, you don't have to burn a bench player in the process.

You don't see this in MLB as much
But it definitely is this way in NCAA and HS where a lot of times your best hitter is also a starting pitcher so you want to keep their bat in the lineup as much as possible.

I like that it's treated as subbing for two separate positions rather than subbing for the individual. I agree with the rule change.

Jon Heyman of the MLB Network tweets that rival teams don’t view it as an inevitability that the A’s trade either of Manaea or Montas. Heyman concurs Manaea seems likelier to find himself on the move than Montas but suggests it’s possible Oakland just carries both starters on its Opening Day roster.
