Just four years ago in his testimony in the New Jersey betting case, commissioner Bud Selig said that gambling on a sport was "Evil, creates doubt and destroys your sport," and that MLB will "never have a franchise in Las Vegas."

Rob Manfred seems to have other ideas concerning gambling and the Las Vegas market. Manfred has expressed an open mind on both topics on several occasions, including earlier this month. "We are re-examining our stance on gambling," said Manfred at the Yahoo Finance All Markets Summit in New York City.

I think if the NHL can make a franchise even semi-viable, then the other 3 major leagues will have a team in Vegas within 10 years, there is just too much money to pass up.

The other 3 leagues are smart though and letting the NHL take the risk

Vegas' TV market isn't that large (40th in the nation), that would be the lowest in MLB. And so much of baseball is the regional TV deals. There are also near by cities that would help in that area.
Other franchises can still sell their rights in neighboring markets like New Haven (#30) Columbus (#31) Austin (#39), there are no cities within 200 miles of Vegas. Baseball would have more appealing options in Montreal, Portland, and San Antonio.

I could see Vegas getting another franchise, but I don't think it would be baseball.

Isn't it time to get over the black sox scandal MLB? It's been 98 years I don't think you've gotta worry about gangsters fixing the game anymore and paying the players more than the owners

If this happens, then there is no reason to keep Rose out of the HOF. Bud Selig and Fay Vincent can both piss up a rope and GFT.

About time the "land of the free" started catching up to some other places in the world with how sports betting is viewed.

can't imagine vegas sustaining 81 home games a year for half a year. the novelty would wear off quick.

Yeah, baseball would be great in Vegas.

Sincerely,

Let's put 2 Teams in Florida, and Miami is a great market.

better be a dome obviously

I am sure the tradition rich Las Vegas area won't be tacky with that.

This would be the only reason I would let Rose in. He broke the first law of baseball but if they do away with it then let him in.

Well the 51's have been one of the worst drawing teams in the Pacific Coast League for several years now. I understand that it is AAA ball, but I don't believe MLB would draw that much better in Las Vegas.

The NFL? Yes with 8 home games it's a novelty. MLB with 81 home games, a lot of which are during the day, not so much.
