We know that the NFL and NHL are easily the most grueling season of the big 4 sports (which is more could be debated).

I'm more interested in the NBA 82 game schedule vs MLB 162 game schedule. Which is more grueling on the body?

Someone was talking about this the other day and I thought it was an interesting question.

i mean, you have to do a WHOLE LOT MORE in a basketball game than a baseball game

easily twice as much effort

about 90% of a baseball game involves literally standing around (or frick, sitting)

NBA is more grueling on the body, MLB is beyond grueling on the mental side, and exhausting on the body.

Really hard to answer as they're not apples to apples at all.

Thinking about pitchers going every 5 days for example.

What percentage of MLB pitchers have had arm surgery?

I would imagine MLB has far more injuries but I don't think that's a good metric to look at. A lot of them are non contact related.

depends on the position, catching 150+ games a season would be incredibly grueling on your body

I played all 3 sports in high school and my body was most beat up after football, most exhausting was basketball, and baseball was just long. I would imagine hockey is the most grueling since you're wearing more pads than a football player while essentially running up and down like a basketball player.

100% right. Imagine having to go to work 15+ days in a row while flying in and out of a bunch of different cities. And before people say baseball players only have to work three hours, that's completely not true. They have to get to the ballpark at least four or five hours before the game starts so they're always working 8+ hours a day. Their schedules are absolutely brutal.

ABSOLUTELY. but if we're talking the sport as a whole, it doesnt compare to any other major sport.

Most baseball injuries are non contact. That's why I say that. Pretty much all pitchers injuries are non contact

I hear you.

But what's that mean as far as grueling goes?

How would you like to judge grueling?

I figured repeatedly doing something until stuff in your arm stops working would be a good metric.

What matters?
