Arrieta has been the better pitcher since the All-Star break last year but I still like Kershaw because of his body of work.

Also, give me Harper all day every day. He is the best hitter in the game currently. Trout is no longer a 40/40 threat like we all thought when he had his breakthrough season. Either he quit running, lost some speed, or something. Even his defense seems to have slipped a bit. While he is still above average so is Harper.

Trout still the 2nd best position player in the game though. Machado nipping at his heels.

I think he has passed Trout at this point. Manny should win an MVP this year really...

That's an awfully bold prediction based on a very small sample this season.

Trout was better than Machado last year. My money is on Trout to end up better than him this year.

Lots of people shitting on Trout at the moment.

What have ya done for me lately. Mike Trout is still the best player in the game in my opinion. Needs to cut down on the strikeouts though.

You like Kershaw over Arrieta because of body of work, but then state that Bryce and Macho have surpassed Trout?

1. Trout
2. Bryce
3. Macho

1. Kershaw
2. Arrieta

That's how I see it as of today, things could definitely change by Opening Day in 2017 though.

Two starts against a Braves team tailor made for him. He's been blown up in the playoffs.

Manny was damn good last year and should have received more love. Dude hit 35 bombs, .286/.359/.502 and was probably the best defensive 3rd basemen. He also stole 20 bases last year so he does a bit of everything. He is 23 (won't turn 24 till July) and a great player.
I don't see why he can't pass Trout this year.

and a terrific start against the cardinals, a decent start on short rest against the cardinals, a decent start against the mets, and a terrific start against the mets. But please, tell me how badly he's been blown up in the playoffs when it refers to two starts over 3 seasons

This isn't the NBA. It's ridiculous to make any sort of judgment about the quality of a player from such a small sample size.

Well his postseason ERA is almost 2 runs higher than his regular season ERA. He has now made 10 starts (12 appearances in the postseason) and only 2015, 2013, and 2011 would be considered good/great and even those are below his regular season standards except 2013.
He does struggle more in the post-season with more pressure than the regular season.

and due to the small sample size of the postseason, his two starts in game 6 of 2013 NLCS and game 1 of the 2014 NLCS throw it off. He has made 6 other starts beginning in the 2013 playoffs and hasn't given up more than 3 ER in any

10 starts is a bigger sample size now....

2009- 2.1 innings 2 earned runs
4.2 innings 5 earned runs
6.2 innings 2 earned runs

So 1 good game out of 3 (although 1 was in relief)

2015- 7.0 innings 1 earned run
6.2 innings 3 earned runs

Both of these starts are good with 1 being great

2014- 6.0 innings 3 earned runs
6.2 innings 8 earned runs

1 horrible start and 1 good start

2013- 4.0 innings 7 earned runs
6.0 innings 0 earned runs
6.0 innings 0 earned runs
7.0 innings 1 earned run

3 great starts and 1 horrible

Arrieta ia definitely the best SP in baseball at the moment. No question about it. Now Kershaw has more accolades in his career. Long term it's Kershaw, right now no one is better than Arrieta.

Some people would take Bumgarner over the both of them if we're talking who do you want for Game 7.

I don't really consider 2009 since he was still figuring the league out. He became the best pitcher in baseball in 2013, probably reall around 2011 but for sure 2013. Since then, as we now agree, he has made 2 horrible starts but outside of that, has been really consistent. The narrative that he can't pitch in the postseason is really over blown. He's the best pitcher in baseball and has had a decent amount of success in the postseason
