I saw an interview with Boston, who was asked about some draft eligible players possibly choosing to stay in school to continue to make more in NIL than they will in the WNBA. She said she made more this year as the WNBA rookie of the year than she did last year at USC. She said the companies that give NIL can still pay you to endorse their business as a pro and her income is definitely higher this year.

Interesting.

It probably depends on the player. She definitely isn’t playing in front of that many people. The NBA is paying her salary.

I think people who think this way are missing the fact that literally nobody gives a frick about the WNBA.

Her popularity score, or whatever these companies use to determine people’s value, is going to plummet. The end of the line for women’s sports (outside tennis or golf) is college. Fans will cheer for their school no matter what. Plus the passion of college kids playing for enjoyment and pride (I realize this is debatable now because of NIL) far outweighs watching pro events.

I could not name two active WNBA players. I couldn’t tell you what teams are good or bad. I’ve never watched a game in my life. These girls are moronic for not staying in college as long as they can. They’ll be a fart in the wind once they leave school. Caitlin Clark is really their only hope since she plays like a mediocre dude playing against girls. She could probably move the WNBA needle a little bit, but not nearly as much as she does at Iowa. She’d also be an idiot to turn down the Big 3 offer for the same reason. Once they lose their popularity from the novelty of college sports fandom, that’s a wrap on their relevancy. No matter how many times ESPN forces the homepage to be covered in WNBA news. Nobody gives a shite about the WNBA and nobody ever will

Caitlin Clark would get utterly dominated in Big 3. Like not even able to get a shot off ever bad. Turnover every possession.

My brother was in a frat at Baylor. He said that his fraternity B team, not even best players in his frat, the B team, played Baylor WBB when Mulkey was there, and they'd win by 25+ every time.

This isn't even like the best intramural team at Baylor of former HS solid players. It's limited to a 100 person frat, and the backup team of this 100 person frat, playing at the time the #1 team in the country in WBB. It would get really ugly if Clark decides to do it. Seeing how sloppy the game is today, first time I've watch WBB ever, confirmed it for me.

Boston is intelligent but she is not the Bayou Barbie , Johnson or even HVL meaning no marketing power. Boston is not a factor no WNBA player is .
Reese would be a fool to go WNBA she would be the Queen of WBB .

Oh I completely agree. Caitlin Clark has no basketball future relevancy after college. No female athlete outside of tennis or golf does (maybe soccer every four years).

That’s exactly my point though, she is an idiot if she doesn’t take the $5million from the Big 3. The highest paid player in the WNBA is only a salary of like $250k. $5m is more than a career earnings from the WNBA for only 8-10 games. Plus it keeps her relevant and so the marketing value stays up. She would get absolutely destroyed, but people would tune in just to see her take on the guys. Nobody is tuning in to a WNBA game.

The classic Bill Burr rant in a standup special. “Nobody in the WNBA got COVID. They’ve been playing in front of 300-400 people per night for a quarter of a century.”

This was common sense only delusional people who think Reese is coming back believe otherwise

Angel already said this after the middle Tenn game

Newsflash: the biggest draw for wcbb is leaving

Why would a rich alumni pay Reese NIL money after she left Baton Rouge to play professional basketball?

Please provide logic...

Mulkey needs NIL to go to future stars she is recruiting...

Real world reality...money isn't endless

This doesn't mean much without knowing how much she made last year at USC. Did she make Reese level money? Doubtful.

Of course they can. And I'm sure they'll honor their existing contracts but they're not going to extend or offer new contracts. There have been tons of TV ads this year featuring NCAAW players but I haven't seen any featuring WNBA players.

Because all NIL doesn’t come specifically from alumni

Do you even understand NIL?

Fashionova, beats and Reebok come from alumni?

Well yeah. It's just the complete morons on the rant that still can't comprehend that LSU isn't paying NIL money. Will Powerade give a crap that Angel Reese is now playing professional basketball and cut her off because she's no longer at LSU?

Go educate yourself on who Reese, HVL, etc have NIL deals with. Then maybe you won't make yourself look like a moron.

The rant is not a credible source of info. Just because people repeat something over and over on here doesn't make it true.

If the NBA didn't pay for the WNBA, that league wouldn't exist. The College WBB has gotten more exciting and draws more people but still doesn't produce a revenue for 99% of teams.
Some individual players will make some money on NIL or endorsements but it's far and few in between.

Do you think women’s college basketball numbers will be the same next year without Reese and Clark?

Nobody gave a shite about women’s college basketball before the tournament last year

The biggest draw for women’s cbb is gone. They aren’t getting 10M viewers for a game again anytime soon with Clark gone

I was at La Tech when they were winning the womans national championship during the Teresa Weatherspoon days. We would play against the Lady Techsters and beat them as well.

And if football and and men's basketball didn't pay for every other college sport, they wouldn't exist (not as we know them anyway).

No body is watching women’s pro ball.

Someone mentioned golf and tennis. I’d disagree and say tennis and US soccer are the only pro level women’s sports people in America care about. Throw in Olympics every 4 years.

Caitlyn Clark is about to disappear off the face of the earth. Though I assume every network will want her on the screen come March next year.

As for major companies continuing to pay them… why? 90% of the country will forget who Caitlyn Clark is within a few years.

Why? Because we do that with all women athletes because in reality, none are so superior to those who came before that we even care. Caitlyn Clark was shoved down our throat. She scored a lot of points because she could shoot, but she will go the ways of Griner, Fowles, Augustus, Parkee, Taurasi…. Forgotten, outside of the college fanbases where they played.
