Hey guys, I have never started a thread on here but just wanted other peoples thoughts on this.

So if you do not know, melvin gordon (RB for LAC) is holding out for more $ and an extension. Funny, is if he does not play this year, he does not get paid (or pays plenty in fees) plus he does not have any time ‘run’ toward his rookie contract expiring. So his only ‘hope’ is that Chargers want him back or he just play. It does not benefit him at all to not play, except letting his teammates down imo. He can wait until next year, when he will be in an option year to get extension. Zeke elliot (Rb for Cowboys) is almost in same position (besides he is in his extension year now, he can sit out and still get a deal next year off his rookie contract). Big thing i think both players on missing, is every year, the salary cap gets bigger and thus they can pay players more because they have more room (plus other players get bigger $ contracts, thus market can be {example:$10M/yr, next year will move up to example: $12M/yr) more next year thus get them more $ then instead of now (or possibly none if teams dont pay/they dont play).

Sorry for long post. Also, I have coached football for 6+ years and have always put more stock in great offensive line is what produces great running backs (some are talented than others in open space/breaking tackles), without large holes to run through, dont matter how talented a runner you are (leonard fornette versus bama comes to mind).

Funny tidbit:

Gordon is holding out for what Harrison Barnes pays in taxes.

I disagree in Gordon's case. He's due to make $5.6 million then season, with no guarantees after that. He blows a knee, he's done.

If I'm his agent, if the Chargers don't want him long term sit out the first month or two. As long as Gordon reports before week 11, he will get credit for the season (make over a million bucks) and becomes unrestricted free agent.

Tigerintheno: i understand, they all take risk of doing that, if he shows up week 11, i would not want to block for him if im an o lineman and him being out cost us wins. Not to mention, he could take a big blow week 11 and be done, still did not gain anything, not to mention chargers offered $10M deal, which is super fair, he is not the best (nor top 5) RB in league. He got more $, he wins and should play. All these players sitting out until they get what they want (regardless if what they are worth, like michael thomas imo), is what makes it a U sport, not a team

This is why I have almost completely ceased caring about professional team sports altogether. The people playing it have become insufferable babies. I’m 100% certain it was like this before social media but between Twitter and instagram and ESPN gaslighting every fricking small issue, I’m alienated from giving a frick about these guys and their pissing and moaning about not getting the extra multi-millions that they already receive for playing a fricking game.

I’m in complete agreement with this as well.

Doesn’t sound very team first by the o line in this situation.

Reported numbers and overall numbers mean nothing to an NFL contract. It’s all about the guaranteed dollars and the chargers have been notoriously cheap with their home grown talent the last 2 decades.

Stick to coaching amateurs, coach. You’re false life or death team importance doesn’t exist in negotiations. These guys have the shortest career spans in the league. They should take every avenue of leverage they can get if they want. Those wins aren’t going to pay your hospitals bills in 20 years.

Yet weirdly enough you don’t seem to have a problem with the billionaire owners clawing their hands on every dollar they can pry from the players that are making them rich eh?

Wildtiger: yes, if he had any leverage, he should use it and that is what he should do after this year, when he can probably get more $ than he will except right now (especially if he think he is thinks he is so dang good, he will have more yards thus be more valuable and his contract will be expired, he really wins!). But if one of the guys chargers work in his spot in pre season and crush it (like go off for 5+ yards/carry), then chargers will not sign him at all and probably hope for him to stay at home, pay him little as possible until his deal expires (not even his extension).

Unfortunately coach, on this level talent matters more than heart and those are two of the best.

The work hard guy can only get so far in the nfl

I mean Gordon has had one very good year, that is it. He's shown to be mildly injury prone and if we're being completely honest he wants the security.

I get it, I really do. I just don't think he's going to get it from the chargers. He'd pull good $$ next offseason though, there's like maybe 2 other good RBs in that FA class.
