I dunno how good the Padres will actually be but they should be fun to watch.

I'm hoping for a 1 pitcher 3 catchers, 5 OF defensive alignment.

He's almost have to go to the AL where he could DH.

All I ever asked is that the Padres try. I'll be going to a few games this year for sure. Can see the stadium from my apartment.

The new GM there has done anothing incredible job. He had literally nothing and has improved that team a ton (on paper)

He's owed 8 million next season and I'd imagine the Padres would have to eat part of that to get someone to take him. Guy hasn't played in more than 86 games since 2011 and he's never played more than 130.

Get rid of Heyward and the good Upton. Classic braves, dealing away their 20-something yr old talents.

that is debatable. it seems they are at least trying. i'm not that impressed. yes, they have a better outfield now. will they stay in the hunt by mid-season? imo, not likely at all. the dodgers were mighty happy to dump kemp.

Fangraphs has floated a Wil Myers-Jurickson Profar swap. Now there isn’t any known talk of this deal and they don’t think it will actually happen, but it would be a pretty fascinating trade. Padres have plenty OF depth, could use a SS. Rangers have middle infield depth, could use an OF. Both are former top 5 prospects coming off injury-ridden years. San Diego GM was heavily involved in landing Profar when he worked for the Rangers. Who turns this deal down?

Kemp is going to cost them $15M/yr. That is a steal.
Wil Myers is cheap and under control for 5 years.
Got all star catcher Derek Norris.
Get Upton for a year, if it doesn't work out he will be a great deadline asset.

They are about to flip Hanigan for WIl Middlebrooks.

Got some lottery ticket pitchers for cheap with Brandon Morrow and Josh Johnson.

How is that not impressive? Given the shite they had in the majors and average farm system

Well you only had them for one more year each, right?

And the braves aren't going to be good this year, so what's that year really worth?

Eh put me in the skeptical crowd on this one. It might be a steal this year, but i don't expect him to play enough to make it a steal going forward.

As a guy who watched as Dlee took a nose dive after his wrist injury i'd be super worried about this one. Granted myers is a lot younger and the extent of the injury likely isn't the same, but traded twice before 25...i'd be scared and excited as hell if my team got him.

I agree with your premise, i think what preller is doing is impressive.

I knew the Padres offense was bad, but I didn't realize it was this bad.

30th in Runs, avg, OBP and slugging

Team leaders:
HR- 15
RBI - 51
Runs - 55

Meanwhile,

Myers, Kemp, Upton, Norris, Gyorko, Middlebrooks, and Smith has the makings of an awesome lineup. Super RH heavy but awesome.

A lot of high variance guys there. But that does have potential to be a good lineup. At the very least, my eyes won’t light up every time one of my fantasy pitchers faces them.

They could be brutal defensively too though.

Unless he's a righty that throws a lot of sliders.

There is a 0.0% chance Matt Kemp can play CF in fricking Petco park

Upton will be good for them and buying pretty low Myers is a risk worth taking. Kemp I could see going to shite

Also their defensive OF could be pretty bad which is a death sentence at Petco. I'm not sure they will be that good but I do know I will have them on my Extra Innings a hell of a lot more this year
