McNeese Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer will hold a press conference at noon today (Tuesday) regarding the future of the McNeese Cowboys basketball program.

The press conference will take place in the Kleckley Room inside the Legacy Center and will stream live on the McNeese Sports YouTube Channel.

Source: McNeese's Will Wade --- who's led the Cowboys to a 20-3 start --- has received a new five-year contract worth $700,000 annually. Wade's buyout following this season will be $1.25 million and $1 million after the 2024-25 season. Proactive move by AD Heath Schroyer.

Jon Rothstein

McNeese AD looking to do everything possible to lock in his head guy "Willy the Kid" and keep him in Lake Charles for the long haul.

Looking forward to many years of wailing and gnashing of teeth by the Wade haters of this board.

Is it a safe bet that he's proven himself as a solid coach and will bail from LC if/when the right opportunity comes? Can't imagine him sticking around for the long haul.

WIn-Win for McNeese and Wade. better pay for Wade and a better payday for McNeese when Wade leaves for a better job.

Long enough to make the haters on the board bleed out and saturate their kotex pads.

Well the former coach now coaches at another in state university, so it's a bit different.

Hopefully this momentum helps leap McNeese into a better conference!

Yeah probably so, McNeese probably worked in a bigger buyout whenever the big programs come calling. So both Wade and McNeese win if and when Wade leaves.

McNeese can do whatever they want but if someone wants Will Wade they’ll gladly pay any buyout. Will Wade knows that too. I’m sure he’s appreciative of McNeese giving him the opportunity to coach again but this is about getting a raise and zero to do with loyalty to McNeese.

This would raise his annual salary from 200k to 700k.

No doubt there. And I do think he is enjoying this community. McNeese helped him, he's helping them, and now they can both help each other out with $$$

Them and Southeastern have got to get out of the Southland for everything except football. Basically a D2 conference playing up.

Yea his wife and kid love it here. I mean he is never home so dunno how much he enjoys anything but the team but his family likes it a lot. They have privacy and everyone has treated them really well. They also love the school his daughter is at.

I don’t think anyone has the illusion that Will Wade will be a McNeese lifer. What this does do, is ensure that he is secure from getting poached by a mid-major. The UL Lafayettes of the world are not paying a $1mm buyout to pay him $1mm a year.
