"Jeremy Lin is a good player," Mayweather tweeted Monday, "but all the hype is because he's Asian.

Sounds strangely similar to a 25 year old quote from Rodman/Thomas on Larry Bird (people think Larry Bird is great because he is white). I'm not comparing Lin to Bird btw - just the reaction from black athletes annoyed by a pale player getting high praise

quote:

Black players do what he does every night and don't get the same praise."

He's in New York and no one on the team could do close to what he has done over the last week... D'antoni gave everyone else a shot first

There is an issue with black athletes being strangely insecure about non-blacks getting praise in sports. Which probably relates to them putting too much of their own ego into sports achievements instead of other things in life

Saying blacks don't make good QBs is MUCH different. It's eluding at the notion that blacks don't have the mental capabilities to effectively lead/govern a group, ie blacks are a class below others, at the most elementary and basic aspects. That's deep and ill rooted in our countries racial history (minstrel shows, slavery, etc.). That is way people take offense to it. Those stereotypes are quickly being eradicated and have been proven to be utterly baseless and false.

What Lin is getting stereotyped for are much better than what the black QBs are stereotyped for. But we shouldn't pigeon hole him. The kid can play, regardless of his race. Now some of the comments have been pretty racist and dumb, and those should be dealt with accordingly .

Lin reminds me of the initial Tebow mania. A whole bunch of hype over a 3rd stringer....However, I do think Lin is better at his position than Tebow is at his.

You can argue that Lin not getting an athletic scholarship has a lot to do with race also. I'm sure Mayweather will dissect that

This news was not a surprise at all. Remember, black people will never be satisfied. You can give them as much as money and fame as you want.

If you think FM speaks for all black people you are obviously retarded. FM is a moron. No surprise this thread devolves into an attack black people-fest. OT FTL

IT seems like once a fricking month there is some black person in sports/entertainment world playing the race card. Its getting old. Even when they have a good point, which is very rare, it is already so overplayed that no one takes it seriously.

I find Whitlock to be hilarious. He is essentially a message board poster with a voice. He goes after everyone and says alot of stuff people are too scared to say and makes jokes that are un-pc, big whoop.
