Nascar makes stupid Chase rules, then makes stupid penalties as a result of the fabricated Chase format.
Go back to the old point system. Tweak the points for winners, top-3, top-10 and bonus points for most wins, top-5, top-10's.
If you want a "playoff" format then look to Golf's FedEx Cup and just give big bonus money for winning the points for the last 10 races, but not a Championship.

I don't normally watch any nascar stuff, but I was watching radioactive on nascar hub where they were showing all those intentional wrecks at Martinsville. It was pretty fascinating to listen to the team radios like Danica Patrick wrecking that dude 100% on purpose. They were all trading pain like a mofo which was a great tribute to Fred Thompson.
