Brett Anderson ton of talent, injury risk, groundball pitcher, somewhat superfluous

Pomeranz Ole Miss trash, stock has fallen, moving to a favorable ballpark, solid gamble

I know how I'd feel about it. Eaton is much younger, much cheaper, and likely better than Trumbo. Not to mention Kevin Towers sold low on yet another asset of his as well. Skaggs had a bad year, but he's still a solid bet to rebound. Curveball is still there

I'm not that mad about Eaton, even though I know he is the better player because we desperately needed another HR bat. I understand that, but I do not like selling low on Skaggs. I was furious when he did the same with Bauer last year. He better not let go of Archie unless we get a proven Ace/CY-quality pitcher back.

Career ERA is 3.81. Pretty much all of that is due to his great 2010 season. The only other season he's had an ERA under 4 he only pitched 35 innings. He was ok in his rookie season, and has been injured every year since.

Jarrod Parker and shite, even Max Scherzer, are the ones I wasn't happy about letting go. Bauer was being a douche and not making the adjustments the organization wanted him to make so I'm ok with that move.

Skaggs is tough to let go of for sure but if Archie is traded, I will be so pissed. I would think a guy like David Price would be the only pitcher they'd deal him for.

I get that, but how Trumbo will hold up over a season in left field remains to be seen, he can't hit breaking stuff for shite, and he doesn't get on base anywhere close to average for a left fielder.

Doubt Archie will go, he seems to be the "gritty" type KT loves since he's a former football player

KT's problem isn't trading guys he has seemingly immature grudges against, it's trading them for pennies on the dollar.

He got nowhere near the value needed for Upton or Bauer, and he significantly overvalued Trumbo here

Trumbo hitting 40 bombs will make people forget his OBP

That ballpark will play well for his power, but his defense will be worse.

People may forget about his OBP, but he'll still be an overpaid (for his amount of service) 2, maybe 3, win player.

The Angels were struggling to find takers for Trumbo despite being desperate to get rid of him. Then here comes Kevin Towers overpaying again to save the Angels day and meet their needs.

Hilarious that Towers was desperate to fill the void created by trading Upton so shortly after.

Meh... he was a -0.8 defensive WAR last season, I am sure there are TONS of defensive players that are worse. If he hits similar to what he did in 2012 (.268/.317/.491) then he will be worth it.

He isn't a FA till 2017 and Angels are paying him what?

Nelson Cruz is also a -0.8 defense WAR player last year with a low batting average poor OBP (Trumbo career .299 vs Nelson .327) and a lot of power. He is about to get a lot more money via FA than what Trumbo will get in arbitration

Well sure, but relative to what he should earn in arbitration, he'll be overpaid because arbitration places a big emphasis on RsBI. Trumbo was primarily a first baseman last year. They have someone named Goldschmidt locked in there.

Trumbo's true talent is probably close to .250/.310/.470, but that doesn't play too great in left field, especially with poor defense.

Bottom line, they'd be better off with Eaton IMO, and they're throwing away Skaggs too. Also, what do you know with Cody Ross who they signed to a three year deal? What about Matt Davidson? This locks in Prado at third base.

Even if you look at his 2011 where he was primarily LF/RF he posted a -0.9 WAR. Not being a DH/1B he will post a bit worse but I don't think it would be worse than others such as Cruz, Delmon Young, etc...

Losing Eaton/Skaggs is the biggest thing right now, of course neither could develop either and Trumbo could continue to be what he is and then it ends up being a better deal for the DBacks.

Trumbo is expected to play left field for the Diamondbacks and could bat fourth or fifth behind Paul Goldschmidt. A.J. Pollock will serve as Arizona’s primary center fielder, with Gerardo Parra facing righties and Cody Ross starting against lefties in right field.

I like that lineup and rotation.

WC1 or 2 for them seems possible.

As for Adam Eaton, who is on his way to the Chicago White Sox in the three-team trade, I spoke with a player who told me it's an addition by subtraction. Eaton was a selfish me-me type player, and the clubhouse will be thrilled he is gone. Didn't run out some ground balls, ran through stop signs and had a huge sense of entitlement for a player who was a rookie.

#grit

That guy sounds like a big homer and is generally wrong in his reasoning, but glad he found a way to justify getting rid of Eaton

You're pretty spot on there. I'm not a big fan of his.

Nick Piecoro was spot on as usual, imo

This trade, too, might work out. But the Diamondbacks continue to operate in this weird vacuum in which all they care about is satisfying their own needs at whatever cost necessary. Sell low. Buy high. The Diamondbacks still have enough talent that all this might not matter, at least not in 2014. But you wonder how much longer we can say that if these sorts of moves remain an off-season tradition.

Ouch, the Snakes gave up too much. Sure Eaton was hurt for half the year, but to throw him away because of that. Skaggs is a young up and comer who was just sent up due to a horrid rotation.

Maybe they feel Goldy is carrying the team too much. The White Sox are the winners here.

I knew the reputation but that's still a shockingly low OBP to me.
