For whatever reason they were convinced it wouldn't get out and decided that protecting the image of the league was more important than handing down a proper punishment.

LMAO - Did you have a seat at the conference table at 345 Park Avenue, NY, NY when Roger and his underlings had this discussion.

I tell you what, if they couldn't find it but TMZ could then that just shows either how incompetent they are or that they didn't really give enough of a shite about it to properly investigate the incident. Regardless, the league office deserves every bit of the blowback they are getting on this.

They did find it

They saw it

You can't undo a month of sourcing info for reporters

They're shifting the narrative to whether they should've obtained it

They fricking saw it

Wait, what? He got it right?

That's the mother of all contrarian stances there

Considering the rumor that TMZ paid $250,000 for the video of Jay-Z fighting with his sister in law, ironically, in a hotel elevator, you don't maybe think that somebody who had that video had a reason to sit on it for a while?

THe league looks terrible either way.

Either they saw the video, lied to cover it up and if it's proved Goodell is on his way out.

Or they didn't try or couldn't obtain a video that TMZ AND Ray Rice's attorney I believe was able to obtain which would make them rather incompetent.

Not to mention the now defunct hotel has stated that they would have showed him the video if he asked, but he never did. Again, incompetence.

The hotel has already said they would have shown Goodell the video if he had asked, but he didn't.

Remarkably, I agree with this statement.

However, the punishment did not fit the crime. Bountygate was a frame-up. Basically because Goodell was to incompetent to prove the crime that he wanted to punish him for, so he took the word of some pissed-off, mentally-unstable ex-employee and used his media friends to convict him of another crime in the court of public opinion.

THAT is what I find most unacceptable with this whole supposed Bountygate scandal.

.....and the NFL repeated Tuesday that authorities did not make available the video of Ray Rice assaulting his future wife in a hotel elevator at an Atlantic City casino last winter.

Somebody's lying!

The motive is so clear and this story is so simple

They saw it, thought 2 games was appropriate, had no problem urging what's her face to apologize, and they thought that's that

Some blowback but nothing big

Then they saw how we reacted to the video, went into panic mode and lied about seeing it

They saw it, no doubts.

And it can't be a coincidence that the video was leaked at the crack of dawn on the first business day the week after that very casino went out of business

Goodell said the league relied on law enforcement to get their information, which insinuated they never bothered to ask the hotel, who have said they would have shown him the video.

And again, multiple other people have been able to get that video but the NFL hasn't...because they either didn't try or they did get it and they're covering it up.

Good. It was a travesty and cost the Saints a crucial year in their window of opportunity--Brees' prime.

I know. It was sarcasm aimed at the people in other threads who claimed that Saints fans were making this about themselves, and yet this guy who has no affiliation with the Saints did the same thing.

You ask one poster if he was in the room with Goodell and Rice and if not he can only speculate then turn around and say without a doubt and no evidence to date that the Saints ran a bounty program on par with the NFLs accusations.

That foolishness and this idea of protecting the shield is the same type of cult atmosphere that allowed what happened at Penn St to go on. Goodell should have resigned after DeMaurice Smith called him out on first take that day saying he completely fabricated the whole story.

Goodell needed a scapegoat to help in the lawsuit against former players and he found just enough of what he was looking for in the Saints.

Lebatard asked today why he makes 42 million a year, it's because he knows where the bodies are buried and he's burying more now than he did in the past metaphorically speaking. He needs to go.

Mother fricking 10!

Eta: I thought I hated Bud Selig as a commissioner but I would take him 10 times out of 10 over Roger fricking Goodell. Dude is an absolute train wreck.
