They'll need more than Cano and Price to win the AL west, much less the AL pennant

Mariners learned nothing from the whole ARod thing? Letting him go to Texas for all that money was the smartest thing they ever did. Fast Forward 6 years and they will be paying part of his salary - while he plays for the Yanks again

Why do MLB players make so much more the NFL players?

NFL surely makes more money.

My bet would be that if they sign Cano, they package Franklin and Walker for Price. And we will still lose 90+ game somehow

We could have a legit rotation this year, but our bullpen still sucks and we can't hit.

No player has ever proved to be worth these big contracts. (Unless the merchandise sales etc are way more lucrative than we know).

Makes sense. Felix, Iwakuma, Price, Hultzen, and Paxton could legitimately be a top 3 rotation in baseball still.

Paying that much for Cano though is insane.

There's two issues right now:
-We can't attract a free agent hitter unless we overpay.
-Jack Z is in his final year and if he doesn't win, he doesn't have a job. So he's going to blow his load and go all out this year.

I've accepted that they're willing to pay the outrageous price for Cano, Mariners payroll is super low and they can afford to go well over 100 million. Trading Walker and Franklin for two years of Price is a depressing thought.
