Thank you. Don't care if it's racist or not, you shouldn't talk crap to a damn college student that's just playing sports. That fan is a thug, no way around it. Starting shite with someone for no reason. That's thug behavior right.

This. It's truly amazing that they expect the 19 year to have the composure that the old man should have had.

"They are there to provide a service! The old man is the customer! The customer is always right so take it...just play or dance or sing or do whatever it is you do for our entertainment. I paid alot of money to see this!"

The funniest thing about this defense is that Smart makes no money from the "customers"

Too much estrogen in this thread guys, lets tone it down

Anyway, Marcus Smart is college athlete. As with all college athletes, they are held to higher standard, rightfully so. He should not have entered the stands or made contact with the fan. He deserves his three game suspension, stop acting like it was justified to push the fan. Its part of the game, hecklers are going to heckle so Smart needs to let bygones be bygones and play the damn game. What the fan said is irrelevant, because a college athlete should never leave the field of play.

Okay, Orr was being an annoying douche bag. But come on, there are hundreds of thousands of him in every stadium across the country.

There are certain responsibilities you take on as a college athlete. You're subjected to more scrunity and criticism, more responsibility and maturity than other peers your age.

I think everything was fair. 3 game suspension is fair. Orr not attending any games the remainder of the season is fair.

Well for one the "superfan" was where he was supposed to be and Smart went after him. Smart clearly stood up and turned around and went after the fan. And it wasn't "the same offense". The guy said something, whatever it was, and Smart physically assaulted him. Smart took it to a whole different level.
And I didn't see or hear any racial slurs and if all the guy said was "piece of crap" (which I don't see any evidence to the contrary) then Smart should have just kept playing ball. Any div 1 athlete should know that fans say dumb shite all the time and to ignore it. I'd be surprised if that was the first time he ever heard a fan say something out of line. Yes the guy shouldn't have called a college kid a piece of crap but I've been at games and yelled derogatory things before (especially to refs, lol) in the heat of the moment and I think most fans have too. Doesn't make it ok but definitely doesn't warrant a physical assault.

From the TTU website:
quote:

As a result of this incident, Mr. Orr has voluntarily agreed to not attend a Texas Tech home or away basketball game for the remainder of the season.

Not only that but if you watch it in slomo the fan is actually apologizing and saying sorry about that for calling him a piece of crap and then Smart pushed him after the apology anyway.

This x1000. All div 1 college athletes know this and are warned about it and they should know how to handle it.

Anyway, Mr Orr is an elder statesman. As with all older gentlemen, they are held to higher standard than 19 yr old college student, rightfully so. He should not have yelled at the student athlete while he was toppled over in the stands while trying to make play for his teammates. He deserves to have his tickets revoked; stop acting like it was justified to yell at a student athlete while on the ground. While what the fans say is typically irrelevant, a gentlemen of that age should be a positive example to all of the college kids in that arena.

FIFY.....see it goes both ways.

To me the litmus test for this situation would be "who would embarrass you more???? If this was something your 19 yr old son did or 60 year old father? For me, definitely my dad.

Not by any legal definition. What would you call it if a 6-4 220 lb. guy ran up and pushed your 50 yr old dad?

Good for him. I'm sure he's embarrassed (as he should be) and is trying to make up for his mistake.

So it turns out he probably didn't use the "n" word. I know ESPN must be disappointed, they probably had their programming and talking points lined up to use all week.

I've heard it was more of Tech 'suggesting' that he shouldn't go anymore.

Thank you. Both are wrong. I'm sure the guy didn't use a racial slur..doubt if a man would say that with that many people around.
