If I was a college fan of a team playing OSU, every time he got the ball I'd chant "piece of crap."

You'd deserve to be punched according to many on this board.

While I agree that Smart should have been suspended, I do not understand people that heckle college players. They are kids, and you're going to talk smack to them?

I coached Little League and Dixie League, and I remember parents that acted like Orr. I'm a big guy, so I'd give them the glare and they would usually shut up. I hope I taught my sons that you can be avid sports fans but gentlemen at the same time.

Fixed.

Many on this board can't accept that Smart's actions were wrong even if what was said to him was wrong.

Smart overreacted even if what was said to him was horribly offensive. Now that we know that it wasn't even nearly as bad as was being reported, it just makes it worse.

Wrong according to the rules of his team and his conference and his future are not the same thing as whether the dude deserved to be punched in the face.

Those are 2 mutually exclusive things, fwiw.

I'm sure that made sense in your head.

If you mean that the response by Smart should be judged independent of the actions by the fan, that is my point.

Smart was out of line.

Sorry you can't keep up.

It's not a tough thing to grasp. Plenty of people deserve plenty of bad things to happen to them in this world, that just doesn't mean you or I or Smart should be the person to make said things happen to those bad people.

You don't agree with that, that's fine.

Your sentence was tough to read. I'm being kind.

Being an a-hole doesn't make one deserving of being punched...especially in an environment like a basketball game.

Furthermore, it certainly doesn't justify Smart's actions which is what was being discussed in this thread. Smart was in the wrong.

If it bothers you to admit that, that's fine.

I think the dude deserved to be punched especially because he did it in the basketball game environment. He was saying stuff to a college student that he would NEVER say under any other circumstance, a very cowardly act. We can agree to disagree, but he deserved a punch in the face, IMO.

Again, that's independent of whether he deserved it or not, you seem to be confusing those 2 things.

What are you talking about? Admit what? And you say my sentence was tough to read, this makes zero sense whatsoever.

Nah, never said he should have hit that crappy fan.

But have fun calling college students a "piece of crap" when you know damn well you wouldn't do it under any circumstance. Badass, bro!!!

Weird. I don't think you Engrish very well. Also, I enjoy the irony in you taking offense that the guy called Smart a "piece of crap" and demonstrate said self-righteous offense by calling him crappy.

I submit that Orr should punch you in the face.

Correct that he deserved to be punched in the face, yes.

Yea never said that, why are you quoting it again?

Weird, I don't think you do since your quotes prove my point, not yours. You do realize that, right?

The difference is, I would absolutely tell that fan he's a crappy fan if I had a conversation with him about that incident , hell he'd probably agree, I'm sure he's ashamed of his actions. Would you tell Smart he's a "piece of crap" if you were in the same situation? Yea, I didn't think so.

Convoluted piece of typing. Good job. The fan deserved to be hit in the face but not by the guy to whom he directed the insult? Makes no sense. Just own what you said and don't try to dance out of it.

And you would tell the guy he's a piece of crap but I wouldn't tell Smart. Because you're a IRL BA, I presume. Like most of the OT.

Bow down.

Wow, not sure why you would want to admit that that is too complex for you to understand. It's awful simple.

Dancing out of what? I've owned everything I've said, it's not my fault you can't distinguish 2 completely separate and independent thoughts, that's on you, you need to own that.

That fan deserved to be punched in the face. Smart should not have punched him in the face. If you can't grasp that or if that is too convoluted for you, i'm sorry I can't help you any further. Those are 2 mutually exclusive thoughts. You thought you were proving me wrong when you quoted me earlier, but you were wrong. You can admit it, it's ok. I admit I'm wrong all the time on the MSB...when I'm wrong.

Me? I'm not the guy who would go to a basketball game and chant "piece of crap" to a college student, that takes a true badass, which I am not.
