It's too bad Jimmy Johnson got to Miami as late he did. He built an absolutely stacked defense. Here is the list of prominent defensive players he drafted there.

Zach Thomas
Jason Taylor
Sam Madison
Patrick Surtain

Jimmy also signed Brock Marion and drafted Kenny Mixon, Daryl Gardener, and Derrick Rodgers who were multi-year starters for them. Marino finally got a championship caliber defense but unfortunately he got it in the twilight of his career when he was old and broken down.

Also Luke is the more valuable LB in this modern era due to his pass defense coverage.

Ask Jimmy Johnson what he thought of Zach Thomas.

Luke was better all around but Thomas was no slouch, that's for sure.

Zach was probably the last NFL player to get by on beer and frozen pizzas. He played in an era where nutrition wasn’t as important as it is today.

This. As a Saints fan, dude was the scariest defender we regularly went against with Brees. The duels they would have at the LOS with checks and audibles were legendary.

The two best Inside linebackers in my lifetime (I’m mid-40s) are Luke Kuechly and Patrick Willis.

Yes, I think both are better than Ray Lewis.

Willis is undeniably the best college linebacker I’ve ever seen in person and Top 3 best players I’ve seen in person in college.
