Exactly. The game is rigged from the get go.

How many people do you think actually played high school basketball?

The problem isn't that most males played high school basketball. The problem is that of the subset of males who would sign up for a shooting competition like this, the percentage that played high school basketball is incredibly high.

You have to be a student at UL, be in attendance at the game (men or women) in order to register for that day, and think enough of your skills that you can make 4 shots in 25 seconds while getting all of your own rebounds. I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of the entries were invalid due to the 6-year basketball rule.

That's pretty crappy. If they are going to have these minute rules, they should be required to vet these students before allowing them to participate.

It was at a women's basketball game. Chances are the only men that are attending that game are students who likely played (we're talking JV and Varsity). Hell, most of the women attending that game probably played HS basketball in some fashion.

ETA: We're also talking about in Louisville. Our school district has around 25 HS in the Metro alone and that's just public schools.

Oh I don't disagree with any of that. But he said most males in America. That is an absurd statement.

UofL or Louisville
No one calls them UL. Not even their fans

And the organizers know that - the potential embarrassment factor.

They know the target audience for this contest and they then exclude that target audience from collecting.

Most males have played some form of either rec league, Jr. High, YMCA, Youth basketball or High School.

Rules said 6 years...That goes back to 13 years old for a college freshman.

Yea but the rule only stipulates high school basketball within the last 6 years, not all those others.

they want derelicts shooting those shots

it's a super cheezy, lame arse, cheapo way of running a contest.

I really think this thread has overrated the absolute frick out of this situation. Not that many people played high school basketball and every single contest in the world has these exact same rules

It seems like I have heard about organizations trying to weasel out of paying out for these kinds of contests before. They are extreme long shots to win. I imagine even NBA players would have some difficulty consistently hitting those shots consecutively and on short time. It's like they don't expect anyone to win, and they aren't prepared for it to actually happen.

and its a trash rule. if they were actually interested in upholding it, they would enforce it before they allow the student in the competition

How do they exactly enforce it before the competition? Hey sign this saying you never played high school ball... they did that. Are they supposed to spend time fact checking this kids basketball history in the short time before the contest when he most likely won't win?

What they typically do is hand some college kid a 10 page contract to sign with 2 minutes to read it.

Might be legal but it's still shady as frick.

if you are going to start throwing out 37k if they make it? yes

to act like this isnt shady underhanded shite is just stupid. its a farce competition that schools use as a marketing gimmick and they have absolutely no intention on paying the reward
