Louisville receives NCAA notice of allegations for escort scandal.

After an investigation of the men’s basketball program spanning more than a year, the NCAA has delivered its Notice of Allegations to the University of Louisville and has charged the men’s basketball program with four Level One violations.
Those are the most serious violations in the association’s enforcement structure. They stem from revelations about strippers and escorts who were paid by former basketball staffer Andre McGee to provide entertainment for recruits and players – much of it in the on-campus basketball dorm named for coach Rick Pitino’s late brother-in-law, Billy Minardi. The investigation was spawned by the October 2015 tell-all book, “Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen,” written by Louisville madam Katina Powell.
In the Notice of Allegations that was made public by Louisville Thursday, the NCAA alleges that McGee “arranged for and/or provided impermissible inducements, offers and/or extra benefits in the form of adult entertainment, sex acts and/or cash” to at least 17 recruits or current players, two AAU coaches and one friend of a recruit. The NCAA says the value of the impermissible benefits, which occurred between December 2010 and April 2014, was “at least $5,400.” The names of the involved recruits, players and AAU coaches in the report have been redacted by Louisville.
McGee is charged with two Level One violations. The NCAA also charged Pitino with a Level One violation for failure to adequately monitor McGee.

The NCAA also charged Pitino with a Level One violation for failure to adequately monitor McGee. The NCAA says Pitino “failed to frequently spot-check the program to uncover potential or existing compliance problems, including actively looking for and evaluating red flags, asking pointed questions and regularly soliciting honest feedback to determine if monitoring systems were functioning properly regarding McGee’s activities and interactions with then men’s basketball prospective and current student-athletes visiting and attending the institution.”
But, but I didn't know.

It's gotten to the point where the NFL and NCAA try to one-up one another on who can handle situations worse. It would be comical if it wasn't so infuriating.

Time for Rick Pitino to move on

Is this just for their basketball program or does it extend into any other sports?

Their local writer this morning seems to think Pitino will end up with a suspension or show-cause (which doesn't matter too much since he's not going to leave UofL at this point) if they don't win their appeal.
McGee will almost certainly get show caused but he's pretty well black-balled at this point anyway after resigning from UMKC and being directly involved.
That all said, the whole scandal inevitably cost UofL their President (for better or worse) and has had the school tied up in a Board of Trustees scandal after Gov. Bevin used the disdain with how Ramsey handled the basketball scandal as a vehicle to force him and the Board out. It's been an unmitigated shitshow for sure.

Talk that the 13 title could be stripped.

4 levels violations. McGhee paid for multiple dances and sex acts. Involving 17 players and recruits. No allegations of lack of institutional control. So self impose saved their tail with more probation in the future.

Let's be honest though - as long as it was all between consenting parties this shite shouldn't be met with huge penalties.
IMO academic scandals and pay for play schemes, including indirect pay for play like vehicles and housing, are much bigger issues in the grand scheme of things.

They're not getting in trouble for having stripper parties and banging whores, they're in trouble because a staff member paid for it.
So per the NCAA; feel free to make up grades and classes in order to keep athletes eligible and entice recruits with the offer of hookers without the threat of real punishment.

This was a pay for play scheme. The payment wasn't cash but was instead a night with a hooker. It's still "paying" for a student to commit and play for your program.
ETA: There was also the issue early on of the age of the athletes receiving the services and whether the girls involved were underage as well.

When the hell is North Carolina going to get hit? The allegations against them were absolutely brutal, putting the USC, Cuse, and Louisville to shame.

Powell says she only spoke to Coach Mike, and never saw him face-to-face, but he had very…interesting demands for the parties.
Katina Powell: “He was just telling me the type of girls that he wanted. He wanted white girls with big butts and big breasts and girls that could squirt to the ceiling and you know, things like that—”
Matt Jones: “Let’s be careful about that –”
Katina Powell: “I am soooo sorry. Yeah, those type of things.”

Louisville's punishment will be to receive a sternly worded letter from the NCAA.

Same as with the academic scandal at UNC. No punishment whatsoever.
Why do we have the NCAA again?
