Of course they have always been insecure regarding UL due the fact that another school in Louisiana wants to be better. Small-minded people in the state only see LSU as the only game in town. The Ragin’ Cajuns will likely never be on LSU’s level in our lifetime but they have made huge strides and have a very formidable athletic program. Hard not to respect what they have done and are doing unless you have blinders on.

Other places like having more than one ranked team in their state because IT IS GOOD FOR THEIR STATE. Here, we think differently. The same mentality is probably why we are dead last in just about everything that spells "progress."

Bingo. Everything you said is spot on. It's why we can't have anything nice in this state. Heck, even Mississippi beats us with 2 SEC teams, and a strong G5 one to boot.
Plus, EVERY other state in the nation can have a "... State University" and a "University of ..." except us. Plus most have a technical college to boot. But there are waaaay too many insecure folks in this state who have been fighting against this for any years. And it is a battle they will ultimately lose.

When the Louisiana Governor has to get the head football coach of the local college team in on the COVID press conference to convince people to social distance, that should tell you where priorities lie here.

There's a group of a few, loud (not all) people here that need to take off the purple and gold glasses and realize that the odd insecurities of just the idea of another in-state school succeeding in freaking football and the marketing behind it makes us a laughing stock to everyone else around us.
