As a casual better, and by casual I mean I go once or twice a year, how do I know which horses to bet?

See how the track plays and bet accordingly

Or, just do what my friends do and bet names or pretty horses. My friends always cash some that way.

That's all I do. I look at what they have won in the past and their recent finishes, but I seem to do worse when I bet based on that.

Then just bet pretty.

I fell in love with California chrome last summer when he was running in cal bred stakes (I've got a thing for red with lots of white). He's made me some money, and surprisingly, is the favorite single on the newest ky derby future pool. Because he's pretty I will follow and bet him for life. It can work out.

Had a friend hit on Giacamo for the same reason.

Just have fun and bet small.

Yea, $6-9 a race is plenty for me.

I hit almost $500 on (I think) a $6 bet at breeders cup. Maybe it was $12. I don't remember.

Little bets can pay off but don't break you if not

Do you like to bet single horses or the trifecta/superfectas?

I bet single horses and box exactas.

Too chicken to really do more than the occasional tri box or .10 super.

I've only hit one trifecta and on the same race was one off from the super. Only won like 30 bucks though because I bet the three favorites.

My SO wanted to bet Lemon Drop Kid years ago in the Belmont (I think)while we were betting a few at the OTB. She didn't know anything about horses but the names and the "cute" ones. I relented and bet $2 to win for her on LDK. She cashed a $90 ticket and I threw all of my tickets on the ground. She bought the next round

going to the racetrack today. I generally know nothing and bet pretty horses or flirt with old guys with race forms.

Delta Flower should be much the best in the Rainbow Miss Stakes at Oaklawn.

Then I will try to remember to put a little on her

One of my favorites in our barn is an Arkansas bred.

Stupid Churchill charging $10 at the gate. They've gotta pay for their giant derby tv somehow

Screw that. I'm going through the racing office. They'd much rather charge admission and pocket it than have people gamble and only get a percentage. I'm glad Nola.com did that series on Churchill as a slumlord. Hopefully they at least got the weeds out of the paddock.
