Dont know if this has been discussed but the Suns will wear a jersey in tonights game that reads Los Suns. It is a shout out to the Immigration law that just passed. Thoughts?

There was an earlier thread.

What exactly do you mean by a "shout out to the Immigration law"?

That is pretty much exactly what the yahoo article stated.

"to honor [the] Latino community and the diversity of our league, the state of Arizona, and our nation."

Im kinda curious as to how this "honors" our nation. Are we purely Hispanic?

I used slang terms but it is pretty close. They basically want to call everyones attention to the law and how "bad" it is.

How many Latinos are in the NBA?

It sounds to me like Arizona is accomplishing what they set out to do with the law.....illegals leaving. I wish Texas would follow suit, but Perry is a pussy unless he is shooting a coyote in a set up situation to garner attention. I'd even be in favor of providing them bus tickets to "progressive" cities like SF since they have so much concern for these folks.

It dishonors the nation. The Hispanic community spits in the face of our laws. F' the Suns.

As I said in the other thread, I am all for a privately-owned business showing that it's not subservient to Government.

As for the general issue of the uniform, I'm all for a privately-owned business marketing its product.

Basically private businesses should be able to do whatever they want. I don't have a problem with the jersey, and agree they should be able to do whatever they want within reason. I'm sure it helps the Suns sell more jerseys. It is the same reason teams like the Cavs have a million different jerseys and teams make changes all the time. The real reason they do it is to make more money....not this celebrate diversity nonsense.

Not to get political. But...

athletes do not need to get involved on this sort of level. Is there seriously not one person within the Suns entire organization that defends the law? If not, then they suck at electing state officials. If so, then the Suns shouldn't go forth with this move.

Also, since when is it a such a bad idea to get illegals out of the country. I've lived near the border long enough...and when the drug issues cause crime, and other illegals suck jobs away from people who are citizens, and when illegals drain the economy by living off of others taxes...it bugs me.

As is your right. Kind of like the right the Suns as a private business are exercising.

I understand its their "right", but I dont like the move and I think Private businesses in sports should......stay in sports. There is no need to honor a community that isnt even a large part of the private business' domain. Baseball is a little different.

I'd bet Hispanics make up a pretty decent part of the Suns fanbase.

I agree with Arizona getting tough on the illegals, but a private business should be able to do what they want. Although I doubt the team is 100% against the issue, so I think it is a bad move to do it for that specific reason. I'd agree they should just leave it alone, but the ownership has the right to decide.

On an organized level, yes.

Because I find it hard to believe EVERY person in the Phx organization shares the same belief. As a teacher, I know my 40+ coworkers at my immediate school have differing views. And seeing as how I am an hour or so from Mexico, I definitely know we have differing opinions on this issue. I would be quite offended if they had everyone in the school wear an anti-immigration law shirt.

Honestly, I would prefer they do. Our current generation of athletes stand for nothing but moving product and selling their brand. Prior generations may not have had every athlete speaking out, but it was far more common. I prefer when people use the stage they are given to promote a cause they believe in. I'd far prefer all citizens be more engaged in politics and social issues, regardless of what side of the issue they come down on.

Would you condemn a player who, say, made a public gesture in support of our armed forces for "being political"?
