Los Angeles 2024 Olympics organizers find less expensive route

Organizers for the LA 2024 bid to host the Olympic Games on Friday released a $5.3 billion budget, one that offers the Olympics at a cost far lower than many recent Games.
LA 2024 officials called the budget conservative but realistic, saying they plan to avoid the high spending of other games because of how little needs to be built.
Los Angeles will build no new permanent venues under its plan. The bid committee says while the Games would benefit in billions of infrastructure improvements already planned by the city, no new construction is needed for it to host the Games.
“The easiest way to express our budgetary objective to both the city of Los Angeles and the IOC is two words — no surprises,” said Casey Wasserman, chairman of LA 2024. “In other words, if Los Angeles is chosen to host the 2024 Games, the (International Olympic Committee) does not have to worry about changing or evolving budgets, shifting competition venues or uncertainty concerning the delivery of the Games.
“Our Games plan offers stability and minimal risk to the IOC and the Olympic movement,” he said. “That’s what we mean by a new Games for a new era, and this is a plan which finally reflects the IOC’s Olympic Agenda 2020 philosophy — credibility, sustainability and partnership.”
Los Angeles is competing with Paris and Budapest, Hungary, to host the Games. The IOC plans to select a host city on Sept. 17, 2017, in Lima.

Having the games in a city with the infrastructure to handle it? Crazy Americans. Not enough potential for corruption.

Considering all the negative PR around the most recent Olympic games, this isn't a bad way to go.

How about that huh? A plan to host the Olympics that doesnt include bankrupting a city.
Most of the arenas/stadiums that get built usually become vacant shortly after the Olympics conclude

The Olympics should be hosted in our memory.
20th century was fun when these games made sense and were manageable with the few amount of sports. Time to move on from this bloated colossus where everything under the sun is an Olympic sport.
The games don't make sense anymore...especially sports that have far far greater and more important competitions.

the IOC just needs to do a better job at choosing better cities. yes, i understand the whole selection process is dirty, but its ridiculous that we are seeing games in places like sochi and rio when they were just so unprepared for the events. choosing cities like paris, LA, etc where they already have most of the infrastructure needed is just a much better option

I think the whole fiasco with the 2022 Winter Games bidding didn't help either.

The lower the budget the less money getting paid under the table, so unlikely they will get it IMO

Cities need to quit being so stupid and getting bilked by the IOC. I'll never understand why cities are so quick to get in line to get bankrupted by hosting an Olympics.

Save on infrastructure and spend big on IOC bribes. Basically a lock now.

Either the IOC will want to address recent PR issues and they'll choose LA...or Budapest is a lock to receive the games.

It's ridiculous that we won't be on the summer Olympic books as a host for almost 30 years if we get LA and over if we don't.. we hosted great games in 84 and 06. After Romney took over salt lake, we rocked the last hosted winter games as well.. I imagine the controls put down to curb corruption has hurt us in more recent votes.

LA is an ideal city to host the Summer Olympics

America is uniquely positioned to host Olympic games. Almost Every major city has a top flight 20,000 seat arena and 70,000 seat nice football stadium plus aquatics centers etc. No other country in the world really has the combination of facilities that most US cities have because of our sports.
Hell even most of our major college towns could host an Olympics over 90% of the rest of the world. Every P5 school has a huge football stadium, arena, aquatics center, track and field facility, gymnastics/volleyball arena soccer field tennis courts... Everything.
... And yet these games are still given to shite holes like Rio
