Why should they get special treatment because they're from the US?

When did it become unreasonable to question whether a foreign country can detain US citizens and revoke their passports when charges haven't even been filed? Or any non-Brazilian for that matter.

Why haven't they been charged yet for filing a false report if it's such an egregious violation of Brazilian law?

We can detain non citizens if they're suspected of committing a crime. Why can't Brazil? And news flash, they have their own set of laws.

Maybe Brazil is doing exactly what the U.S. does, which is waiting to gather more information. How are they going to gather that information with the suspects out of the country? Do you think the two swimmers detained would have outed Lochte if they were back stateside?

Props to Brazil for handling this the way they have. The swimmers need to be held accountable and Brazil deserves to find out what actually happened after having their country dragged through the mud worldwide.

completely unbiased for sure

And also at that security footage that showed absolutely nothing but them coming out of the gas station, getting in cab, getting out of cab, then being made to get on the ground with hands up.

This is a huge non-story

None of the 4 are too smart - well maybe the premature gray cat is - you pull some shite like that in a foreign country - it's best to haul arse back to the USA - fast.

There is exactly ZERO proof that they pulled anything except reports from Brazil's law enforcement officials.

The security footage shows nothing to discredit their story. Doesn't show them breaking anything, stealing anything, fighting anyone...it shows them walking in and out of store, getting into cab, cab not moving, then them being made to get out, then put on ground with hands up.

Am I saying that they are 100% telling the truth and deserve no blame? No. But I'm not ready to take corrupt Brazil's police force word for it with no proof - when the only people with motive to lie is the police force to justify their actions.

Yeah, of all the legitimate and inarguable things to bash Rio about, booing other countries is not one of them.

At least they were honest about being drunk. They left out the part about hookers and blow for good reason.

I don't know how this is debatable now that two of the other swimmers said Lochte made the whole thing up. What a douche.

So are you just going to assume that everything that Brazilian officials say is a lie?

So an American could commit any crime they wanted to in Brazil and you would assume that the police are lying, correct?

This is laughable. Ryan Lochte is less credible than almost anyone.

So, on a scale from 1-10, how serious is this story? Because Sportscenter is having Balls to the Wall coverage on this.

Its interesting and fun. It isn't really important, but neither is the Olympics or sports in general.

Of course there is "missing" video tape from the gas station cameras. Angles that showed them on film in the beginning is missing when they were confronted.....

Not surprised.

They probably vandalized the gas station and then were held at gun point until they paid

Yeah, Twitter had several members of the media reporting that the story was fake.
