Ongoing reports linking World No.4 Viktor Hovland with a move to LIV Golf have been given new life after the Norwegian pulled out of the PGA Tour's WM Phoenix Open.
Hovland's withdrawal followed a tie for 58th place at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, beating only 14 players in the limited-field event.
He opened with a 69 last Thursday, but struggled to consecutive 72s before the tournament was shortened to 54 holes due to weather.
It was Hovland's first start since opening 2024 with a T22 at The Sentry, the season's first $20 million ($A30 million) signature event that also featured a limited field.
Hovland's decision not to compete in Phoenix sparked the embers of rumours of a potential move to the LIV tour.
He was followed out of Phoenix by fifth-ranked Xander Schauffele, who was coming off a T54 at Pebble Beach – his first finish outside the top-10 in four starts this year.
Hovland's withdrawal created a spot for Victor Perez, with Alexander Bjork joining the field in place of Schauffele.

Are the LIV bots aware people withdrew from tournaments before LIV existed?

Hovland's withdrawal naturally sparked embers on simmering rumors of a potential move to LIV Golf. Tyrrell Hatton pulled out ahead of Pebble Beach before joining Jon Rahm's team that went on to win LIV's first event of the season in Mexico on Sunday.
The Norwegian, who has committed to the Genesis Invitational at Riviera next week, has repeatedly denied a potential move to LIV, saying as recently as December that he doubted that would be a future consideration despite also criticizing the PGA Tour's leadership.

dude stop with these rumors. It made sense a couple weeks ago. They’re not adding a 14th team

Maybe not create a 14th Team but take over the Captaincy of the Cleeks and Ironheads would not surprise me given how terrible those two teams have done over the last two years.

You can’t really drop people under contract. At least, I don’t think they can. Only thing would be adding another team.
But more likely, has to do with playing back to back to back with Riv also being a Signature Event so it makes sense to take WM off this year.

Just pay them and don’t let them play?

Any chance you feel like starting one megathread with all LIV updates, rumors and "news" rather than a new thread every time another LIV topic hits the news cycle?

Can we get a thread for the LIV bots to post all their rumors and threads in one place?
This entire board is turning into speculation and then a LIV / PGA debate in every thread.

This. Don't need a thread every time someone WD's from a tournament.
