I wish they could have two college-style 4 team regionals and then best 2 out of 3 right after the second one for the championship
32 -> 8 -> 2 -> champion
32 -> 8 -> 2 -> champion

Yeh, but they face Dutchtown at Dutchtown tonight, then they'll move on to Denham. Not an easy path at all. They've lost a lot from the past 2 years.

Looking at the 5A bracket, it sets up pretty well for a 2nd round match between Catholic BR and Ruston. Problem is that they will have to play 3 games over Friday and Saturday. Travel distance means that games 2 & 3 are played at the same location after both are on the road either late after the Friday game or early in the morning for 2 games on Sat.
Not a good scenario for either although a little better for the home team Sat.

all 3 are at the higher seed...

The 5A is fricked. Single elimination in the first round....Probably the best way to go since there are so many run rule games in that round. 2nd and third round is best of 3, which is a step up, but then back to single elimination when the teams are SUPPOSEDLY most evenly matched?
Yeah. That's odd. I like the best-of-3 set-up in the 2nd and 3rd rounds....but dropping that in the semis and final seem pretty dumb.

It makes you wonder how Livonia suddenly got good at football and baseball at the same time. They should investigate previous teams.

Evangel wins 3a. I don't need to see the bracket to know that.

STM will lose in finals

Should have had better base runners.

Meh
We had our shot in the 7th
Leadoff shot that gets out earlier in gane. Hitter was slow as dirt. Was crushed us was inability to get bunt down and runner to third and one out. #firejavi

#1...The kid was not academically ineligible for those stating that. “In this case, there was no court order involving custody. The student’s parents were not married and (he) lived with one or both at different times. (LHSAA Executive Director Kenny) Henderson even stated during the appeal that, had this case been submitted as a hardship involving a different bylaw, he likely would have been granted eligibility.” They simply sent their kid to school at the one nearest a parents home. Not b/c of athletics or academics, b/c 1 school was a min from one home and the other was 30 mins from the other parent.
#2...Livonia had good programs in the past. Lots of playoff appearances. You just don't hear of small town schools until they finally make it all the way. Part of what may or may not have pushed them over the edge was the fact that due to Pointe Coupee Central's failing school, those students were granted "school choice". Since Livonia was the only other high school in the parish, lots of kids transferred there. That naturally gave them a greater pool of kids to build teams from. Now that the state has failed to turn around PCC, and it is still a failing school, they(Livonia) are being FORCED to take on 180 new students next year b/c a judge orderd PCC be closed. Now the LHSAA wants to drop the hammer on them due to 1 freshman b/c his parents never got married and there is no court document on file.

Livonia has had some solid teams in the recent past. I really don't think the baseball success was due to this kid. I have no idea about football.

Does Catholic BR keep the post Garidel dynasty going and win their 3rd state title in 5 years? I say yes

Probably not. Their best player is also their ace pitcher. He's very, very good. Probably going to be his district MVP.
Also, DeRidder got boned.

WFTiger...
1. another school was NOT 30 minutes from his pops house....not even close...not that this matters at all..
2. did nobody at Livonia see his transcript and see he came from outside the home attendance zone/parish?
3. Yes they won 3a in baseball a few years ago.. but... last year was their FIRST outright district title in football = johnny come lately
This is not the first time a school has had a season ruined by this rule - as a coach you know all too well that the penalty for using an ineligible player is severe - or else everyone would try to use kids they are unsure of.
St Augustine went 10-0 one year THRASHING the eventual state champs... and guess what... on paper they were 0-10....
Helen Cox lost a very likely state title run from a nearly identical case.
If I were a parent at Livonia - I would be pretty hot that NOBODY even questioned that he came from outside the parish the previous year..... I feel for the kids at Livonia.. but somebody somewhere dropped the ball on this.... and it's not the LHSAA.. and as someone who lost nearly half of his HS career over LHSAA mess ups - I have no love for them...
