2005 Rose Bowl Game

Rewatching the 2005 Rose bowl. Vince Young is ridiculous. Almost more so than the following year vs USC. The 2006 Rose Bowl game vs USC is more talked about, but this plays that Vince Young is pulling out of his arse vs Michigan are unbelievable. Just a completely better athlete than anyone on the field. And Braylon Edwards isn't a slouch either. This game was a long time ago, but I don't remember a whole lot of hype about Vince Young prior to this game. I do remember watching the second half live, and quickly realized that Vince Young was going to be something big the next season.

Laughing at Dan Fouts when VY scores in the 4th quarter down 10, "NO....NO....How in the world"

It's crazy that the iconic Tex/USC rose bowl the following year essentially erased this game from people's memories. This one was super tight the whole way and not decided until the last moment. Vince had almost 200 yards rushing and 4 TDs on the ground lol. Insane for a QB in those days.

Watching VY in this game is like playing vs the computer in NCAA football when the computer decides you aren't going to win, and pretty much breaks every tackle, makes every play possible. Scores every unlikely TD. You can't do shite but take it...right up the arse.

It's a top 5 bowl performance that nobody talks about because 2006 totally blew the entire thing out of the water.

I was at that game. Strolled out of the club at like 3am and somehow got on the train in a few hours to the stadium. The tailgating or lack there of was laughable. The stadium isn't really that nice either.

The view into the hills over the stadium is unreal though

They didn't tailgate that year? The year I went, tailgating was awesome.

Mack politicking , Tedford not, Cal left out. That set the stage for coaches having to politick every week and watch what they say … (cough) … “ we’d be honored to play them again”

He was fun to watch

There was some outrage over Texas being selected over Aaron Rodgers' Cal team and the bowl forgoing the traditional Big 10-Pac 10 matchup. It was seen as Texas finally being thrown a bone after being left out of BCS bowls in previous years after choking yearly to OU, Colorado, etc.

I remember the Oklahoma State comeback and Kansas 4th and 16 being pretty big for him, but I guess they weren’t nearly as big on the National stage has a whole.

That was a terrible day of football for me. LSU losing on Hail Mary earlier to Iowa and then my second team Michigan losing on walk off fg.

shite like this is why I think VY is the best college player of the last 25 years (I suggested as much in the Joel Klatt thread). Something flipped in his brain after the shutout loss to OU that year. He never lost another game.

UM in Pasadena, OSU on the road at night, USC for all the marbles. Texas should've lost all three of those games but VY dragged Texas to victory in all of them. He would not be denied.
