Wow I've never seen that race from start to finish. Goosebumps.

Secretariat's move from last to first place in the Preakness is absolutely jawdropping. Everything about him was stunning... his performances... his looks. It's hard for me to imagine that Man O'War could have been better. No way.

Goosebumps every time I hear that... which has been plenty, because I can't get enough of the 1973 Belmont.

I've seen that before. The greatest athlete since Jim Thorpe.

The other horses look like they are in slow motion when Secretariat goes to the lead.

To me the most impressive feat was the move he made in the Preakness at the first turn he was last, and when they hit the next turn he was leading. The quickest move I have ever seen. It was like the other horses were standing still.

The Belmont was just ridiculous. If Secretariat wasn't around, Sham might have won the triple crown, he was that good. And Secretariat just outran him. The true GOAT

This is the moment I remember even more than the Belmont.

I don't watch horse racing nor do I know anything about it, but the video of secretariat at Belmont always gives me goosebumps as well.

"Pincay goes to his whip time and time again, But Ronnie Turcotte has his whip put away, and Secretariat has them put away"

Goosebumps still today.

Barbaro was a great horse. Secretariat was on a different level. He owns the record for all 3 races and I don't see those ever broken.

check out his last race.

How awesome it would have been to see him go out like that.

That was great. It's like he was toying with that other horse and then just turned on the jets. Amazing horse

Yeah, would have loved to have seen him in person.

In the Belmont, Pincay was instructed to stay with Secretariat from the start, and it was his downfall. Secretariat wanted to run that day, and there wasn't any way for any horse from any generation to keep up with him. Amazing horse, who loved to run.

Secretariat holds the record for fastest time at the Preakness, Belmont, and Kentucky Derby.

He holds the record in all 3 of the Triple Crown races.

He's faster than any horse that ever ran in any of the Triple Crown races.

That post wasn't exactly serious. It was because I posted a Barbaro thread yesterday. There's never a horse racing thread on the MSB and there's been two the last two days.

I'm about to throw up a Preakness thread once the NFL Draft dies down this weekend.

So, it's 1973... Secretariat has been proclaimed "Super Horse" on the cover of Newsweek. He's the very embodiment of "majestic", the most gorgeous creature that ever hit the tracks. His career has been fantastic, and then he dominates the great Sham in the two previous Triple Crown races.

So, there hadn't been a Triple Crown winner in 25 years. There's a lot of pre-race excitement. We all KNOW he's going to win the Triple Crown... it's a foregone conclusion. We gather around the TV to witness history, but it's so inevitable that it's all going to be anticlimactic.

Anticlimactic, did I say? The HELL it would be. Secretariat would have none of that. What we then witnessed was something you really had to witness in real time to appreciate... we just stared at each other in amazement and awe. How did that just happen? Incredible.

eta: And there were goosebumps.
