I'm just bored and fricking around.

I do think he's overrated, though. Many people have him in their top 10. I just don't see it.

No cause I am old.

On a sports topic though, the NBA Network or whatever showed Birds Top 50 moments a hour ago...

I forgot how amazing the mofo was. holy shite the 80's were so badass in the NBA

I would like to see a guy like Bird in todays NBA. A guy who everyone knows is not the greatest athlete, but is clearly head and shoulders better than everyone else. You know it, the other team knows it, and there is nothing you can do to stop him. Bird was slow, couldn't jump all that high, but had every other possible intangible you would want in a basketball player. Plus he was probably one of the top 5 shite talkers in the history of the league.

Without getting in a pissing match, why do you think he's overrated?

That's why I said top 15. He is not overrated by any means... a great scorer as well as passer and rebounder. His passion for the game was unmatched..... his back was his worst enemy.....

Before the Wall St. like panic of 1990's basketball, where everyone was freaking out about missing on talent, looking overseas, starting to look to high school, etc...

There was like one guy who had jumped from high school to the NBA...Moses Malone...and he didn't go straight to the NBA. He was drafted by the fledgling ABA because he would be cheap and probably partly as a publicity stunt.

Malone didn't get to the NBA until two years later.

It didn't matter how good you were. The NBA didn't draft high schoolers as a fact. Until the panic and widening net of the NBA's search for talent in the 1990's - then it became acceptable to draft outside of college.

And btw, the Celtic drafted Bird as a junior even though they knew he was going to play college ball as a senior (Bird only played 3 years in college, he was a transfer.)

I'm not going to be able to come up with anything of substance. It's almost a bit of a running joke for some of us around here to shite on Larry Bird when he comes up. It's not a topic that I'm super passionate about or anything.

I love watching him and think he was awesome. But it looks like he was able to do some of the stuff he did because of how the game was played back then and because of some of the guys he was going against. I'm not sold that he'd be considered top 20 all time if he played in more recent times, because of the type of athlete he'd be going against.

He's the 80s version of Steph Curry.

Homer, Bill Simmons has him #5 behind Magic in his Big Book of Basketball.

1. Jordan
2. Russell
3. Kareem
4. Magic
5. Bird

So, one person has him top 5.

Michael Jordan
Charles Barkley
Moses Malone
Dr. J
Dominique Wilkens (Duel at the Garden!)
Drexler
Isiah
The Dream
The Iceman
Magic

Yeah those guys were super un-athletic white stiffs.

What's funny is your argument is exactly what they said about Bird coming out of college. No way he can handle the all black NBA...and it was at the time.

Ehhhhh. I don't think he'd be able to create his own shot like Steph does. At least from the perimeter. He IS bigger and tougher, so maybe he could...?

Bird was a better rebounder.

Hell idk.
