Busch said it was the hardest hit he's ever taken in NASCAR competition, stating that he left the racing surface going 176 mph and then slowed to 90 mph in the grass when he impacted the inside wall at 90 G's. As soon as he made contact, he knew his right leg was broken. Busch tried to use his left foot to exit the car but ended up having to use his heel because of the pain in his foot.

Lucky he only only had a broken leg and a broken foot.

I don't think they meant 90 G's but it reminded me of this

I thought the same thing about the 90 Gs bu he was adamant in his interview. Sounds like it is absolutely insane. If he weighs 100 lbs that = 9000 lbs. Sounds like it is impossible. But apparently if NASCAR is correct he lived with what was minor injuries.

That's bad, that's not like hitting a wall on the track and momentum carries you forward. He hit that inside wall and came to a complete stop. Lucky he is alive. Without that head and neck device they have to wear he might have been killed.

Do they have an accelerometer that verifies this? Color me skeptical.

I am as well. Doesn't seem like anyone could survive that. However, NASCAR has the data from every wreck and is the ones who provided the data to Busch.

Maybe someone who understands how that number would be calculated could provide some insight.

Someone needs to take a physics class because 90 Gs is laughably science fiction high.

If you use this website LINK it calculates the force at impact would have been about 21.67 tons.. Not sure how that translates to G Force though..

Eta: 90 G's is like an acceleration of nearly 2,000 mph per second.

Or 200mph per 100ms...or 100mph per 50ms. I can believe that parts of the car went from 100 to zero in 50ms but I don't believe that the car as a whole experienced that kind of acceleration. He would have been shredded to pieces.

So mr wizard do you care to elaborate?

So the 214 Gs recorded in the video that was posted is false?

Pretty much broke his entire torso and crushed his ankles. Surprised his eyeballs didn't fly out.

Came back 18 months later at the Indy 500 .

Final velocity = 0
initial velocity = 90 miles per hour = 40.2336 meters per second
distance = ?

-(40.2336^2)/(2 x distance) = 882.5985 meters per second

882.5985/9.80665=90 G's

(Meters per second/ Meters per second per G)

Someone better at math figure out the distance Nascar is using to claim the 90 G's...

That's unbelievable that he would want to step back into an indycar after that

1 G would be accelerating from 9.8 m/s to 0 m/s in 1 second.

90 mph = 40.23 m/s

90xg = (40.23 m/s)/(t)

g = 9.8 m/s

t = 0.0456 s

That means he would have hit the wall and accelerated from 90 mph to 0 mph in 0.045 seconds.

Seems a little high of a number but I haven't seen the wreck.
