The 109th annual Rose Bowl on Monday night between the Michigan Wolverines and the Alabama Crimson Tide did not disappoint, with an uber-exciting game on the field with a terrific atmosphere to boot inside of Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California.

This led to longtime college football broadcast icon Kirk Herbstreit calling for the Rose Bowl to be the host of the National Championship every year, instead of being a CFP Semifinals matchup.

“I’ve been saying this for years and I’ll say it one more time,” wrote Herbstreit in a Twitter/X post. “As the world of CFB changes in so many ways I really wish the leaders and decision makers would just make the Rose Bowl the host for the National Championship EVERY YEAR! The setting-beauty-field-and history of that place is unparalleled. Last night was another chapter in its long and incredible history of memorable moments.”

I would actually be content with that. Or worst case have it rotate around the original bcs bowls. I hate it going to places like Reliant/SoFi/Allegiant. Something about it just feels sterile and off

It should always host a playoff game, but I can’t imagine fans continuing to travel to California for the natty every year.

Kind of nice when the big game is somewhere closer like New Orleans, Houston, Atlanta, etc.

College football should never be played at an NFL stadium.

Watching the Rose Bowl with Bama and Michigan (the most iconic college uniform to me) in Pasadena, on natural grass, all you see are rows of people in the stands, no screens and no amusement park light show.

That's college football. That was a real treat to watch.

I can’t imagine a better place to have celebrated LSUs National Championship than New Orleans. That victory march down Poydras is one my favorite non-game memories about that night.

I think it's basically going to be a quarterfinal every year. It's a bit behind the times to host the national championship every year. Plus, some of the mystique is the 5:00 eastern time slot, which they would lose starting it at sundown.

Location determined by seeding?

I agree. I dont mind the OG BCS bowls having games becuase ive gotten used to it at this point. Like the superdome still has an old school stadium feel to me. Same with whatever miami's and glendale's stadiums are called these days. Not a fan of ATT or the Benz but feel like theyd probably get lumped in as well.

it is an absolute logistical nightmare getting out of town after the game, not to mention that residential area right around the stadium isn't really a place to visit and stay.

I have no problems at all with the game/venue itself but man I would hate to permanently chain the game there considering all the headaches that come with it.

It should be. Getting to Pasadena should be the goal for every team, every year. Let it be the Augusta of CFB.

Start playing the game on Saturday. Figure it out with the NFL.

I’ve never been to the Rose Bowl, but I’ve heard fellow Bama fans who went this time and in January 2010 for the national championship game say that the stadium has number of deficiencies and that getting in and out of the Rose Bowl area is tough.

frick that. It’s way too far away from the SEC to have it there every year

It's a dump. Getting to the stadium sucks.

It's got cool views when you're in certain parts of the stadium. That's it

Couldn't disagree more. While I agree with some of what he is saying the Rose Bowl should host a game on NYD every year. Losing the start time or the date severely lessens the mystique that the venue has.
