Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard puzzled why NY6 games are "meaningless" to people

They go on to blame player entitlement and this need to get to the CFP as the biggest reason for why this is so. They both then conclude that it has to be because players don't love football as much as they used to.
Um...look in the freaking mirror guys. ESPN is the one who made these bowl games seem meaningless with their push for a playoff and then that stupid "Who's In?" marketing campaign.

It’s not puzzling, the answer is easy
this is all players and fans care about anymore because the sport has made it that way.
Bama rematching LSU in 2011 really was an extreme turning point for the sport
the only way forward now is just expanding the playoffs, getting rid of conference championship games, and essentially getting rid of/consolidating the other bowls

Theyre right, it is absolutely entitled kids, it has become ridiculous. NIL made it worse, these kids have no understanding of a team and loyalty.

It definitely takes away from conference rivalries when you have 2 or 3 key starters sitting out of each bowl game. It's just an exhibition at that point.

Why should they? Do the coaches, schools, or fans have any loyalty or concern for them?

I was personally shocked with how poor attendance has been at bowls this year. I know the China Virus has some to do with it, but some of these games were under 20% capacity.
Even the orange bowl last night was half full in the second half.

Was a great segment. At least they’re willing to talk about it.
Player mentality is definitely different but it’s not like they aren’t making rational decisions.

well most games i saw on TV had 3rd string or WR RB as the QB because the starters refused to play in the bowls. nobody wants to see that crap, they want to see the team that earned a right to be there, not the backups to the backups playing for the first time all year

All week we complained about how ESPN wouldn't even talk about the bowls they were covering and talked about the CFP non-stop in pregame, halftime, post game, and even during the bowl they were showing. They provided non-stop coverage to the CFP to the detriment of the bowl they were covering. Now they are blaming somebody else, the players, for the bowls being meaningless? Incredible.

How many fans swore off ESPN for their race baiting propaganda? That may explain a big part of it Kirk, you crying vagina.

Wisconsin is known for travelling very well for bowl games and I think the LV Bowl announced something like 32K for attendance. And the other team was from AZ so travel was easy for them.
Home attendance wasn't tremendous either. Far from empty but not full either this year.

They're not wrong. I can understand for the very few who have an NFL future, but why would it be meaningless for the others? 98% of teams have no shot at a title from day one. So are all their games meaningless?

BCS >>>>>> Playoff
I have to say, college football overall was more engaging and fun during the BCS era. But I don’t know if that’s just my personal outlook or due to other factors beyond the playoff.

I love the revisionist nostalgia people are having of the BCS.
People absolutely despised the BCS but yet now it’s the GOAT
