Saban did the same thing his first year at Alabama vs Arkansas. Arkansas was up 38-31. Alabama drove down the field, but faced a 4th and 6 at the Ark 25 with 4:25 remaining. He elected to kick a FG. 38-34 Arkansas. Alabama ended up scoring the winning touchdown on its next possession.

I'm not seeing the problem other than Kirk didn't articulate it properly. It's obvious when he says, "You have to score twice", he's talking about winning and not just tying the game up.

How much time was left when it was 14-6? Because I agree with kicking when it's 17-6 with :44 left

Well, technically he would need 2 scores to win, that's probably what he was inferring.

Seemed like the reporter was asking about when it was 14-6..and I guess, given Iowa's offensive capability, or lack thereof, what's more likely: Converting a 4th & 4 and scoring a touchdown on the ensuing series, or kicking a field goal, getting a stop and scoring again?

Kicking it in that spot was probably the best decision. Can't help the kicker missed it.
