Their backup is Colt McCoy. They're a 4-12 with McCoy at QB

I know it seems crazy, but the Redskins actually have a pretty good roster right now when reasonably healthy. An Alex Smith or someone like that could win here.

That wouldn't be the plan. There are other options.

Right now for them there aren't better options than a guy who already knows the system

of course you can, but that's not the question.
The question is can you win a Superbowl while paying him the kind of money he's asking? That's where it becomes tricky.
They should have given him a big contract a couple of years ago, it would look like a bargain right now.

He outplayed Russell Wilson and Drew Brees in "big games" and should have won both. Seattle was on the road and he had zero offensive line. Was one of the more impressive QB performances I've seen in a lifetime of watching the NFL. Saints game obviously wasn't his fault.

He has routinely choked when it mattered

Like when we had to win last year finally game of the year vs the Giants and he completely shite the bed.

He’s also terrible in prime time matche ups vs good teams

I love threads like this when a bunch of people who see his stats, a bunch of which are from him padding them when the game is over. Trying to lecture redskins fans who watch him every week. Notice how the Redskisn fans in here all agree. We would all love to keep him but no where near best QB in the league money. He’s a 2nd tier QB who wants to be paid 1st tier money.

This is the reason I see them not resigning him. They need a lot of help elsewhere and can’t afford to pay him anymore.

This right here. No way can you win a Super Bowl by paying Cousins $25 million a year.

In a theoretical world where all those options cost the same amount, you're right. That isn't the case though.

It isn't about whether Kirk is a good QB. It's whether he's good enough to carry a handicapped roster that would be inevitable with a huge QB salary.

I've been saying it all year...I think Denver. Elway will make a huge push for Cousins

Why take a chance on one of these shite QBs in the draft when you can sign Cousins, a proven signal caller?

I'm not giving him $25mil+, I don't care what team I am.

If he were willing to take on a contract that is more comparable to how good he is, then those teams should be interested in him.

quote:

You give Cousins Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas with that defense then look the frick out.
You give Cousins $30mil then some unit or part of that team is going to be $30mil worse, probably the defense. So you no longer have a great defense, and then you're stuck with a $30mil QB who is a fringe top 10 QB in the league who isn't carrying you anywhere but since you're paying him that much, you're lacking elsewhere so you need him to carry you...and again, he can't.

quote:

The wildcard is if Big Ben retires and somehow Pittsburg could sign him. Cousins with those receivers and Le’Veon would be lights out.

Same story as above...

You can. You can also win one with Matt Stafford.

You very very likely can't win one with either getting the money tied up into their team's salary caps that the 2 have gotten/will get.

Alex Smith is not an upgrade, he puts up about the same stats as Cousins and he is 4 years older. If Washington hadn't fricked up from the start they could have signed Cousins for a long term deal at a helluva lot less money. The last 3 years he's been in the top 10. The Redskins should have focused more on getting the rest of the team up to par instead of fricking around with Kirk. There are 20 teams that would love to have a QB that puts the numbers up Kirk does.

I'm not saying he's an upgrade. That isn't the discussion. What he is is a serviceable starting QB that doesn't cost nearly as much.

That is the whole point of not paying him $30M. You can't get the rest of the team up to par if you do that.

Wow, big ask for a dude who can't beat good teams.

I can't imagine the work environment KC has to work in. They have basically been telling him you are not good enough but we have no other options.

He's not.

quote:

When KC leaves Washington they will be lucky to win 4 games. They have nothing but constantly blame KC for their problems.

Sometimes a rebuild is better than meddling around .500 or so knowing you're not good enough for many reasons.

Kirk Cousins isn't the problem, but he also isn't the solution.
