I'd like you to provide the transcript of all the coaches you've interviewed since we should just throw stats out the window since they seem to be completely irrelevant.

What are real defensive stats? It's not like offense, where it's easy to quantify. Just watch the film. It's easy to see how terrible Love is. You can choose to argue.

Kevin Love has been garbage for the most part. He gets his stats in the 1st quarter and then is a liability the last 3.

I agree... it hard to quantify defensive statistics. Like in baseball, I don't weigh my opinion heavily on what a player's perceived range is. I don't care too much for it really but I don't just pretend it doesn't exist or have some value at the same time.

This thread can relate to the James Harden ones that's been going on for years. As bad as his highlight films on have defensively, he's also not a terrible defender. He's graded out as league average his entire career and excellent this season.

I can't argue with you because I can't talk to coaches around the league about their opinion on him.

Kevin Love makes Kyrie Irving and James Harden look like elite defenders.

The difference is that Harden would make like one or two horrible plays a night. Love is horrible on every possession. I was watching whole games, man. Harden's lack of focus led to some funny highlights. Love just sucks every play.

That would be quite the task regarding Kyrie. He's worst of the Cleveland trio. Harden has been playing very good defense this year.

Ryan Anderson at least tries. I think part of his problem is that Monty is a bit overprotective with AD.

Yet his defensive rating grades out at league average.

His defensive rating is inflated because of his rebounding numbers

I'm no basketball expert, but it seems to me he should have easily been able to see where he was, and where the man driving was coming from...I'm relation to the basket. He then could have figured out if he wanted to go up and defend the shot or step out a bit and shaved a bit of the driver's angle to force a more difficult shot.

Either way, there is no excuse for what he did there and I have a hard time believing it had to do with skill on defense.

I think that ridiculous play is just the best example of something he is now programmed to do. The guy plays no help defense. None. When he sees that a player is about to shoot (and often times this means they have gained an advantage on a defender), he crashes the boards. That time the man he needed to help had been completely beat, so he looked like an idiot crashing the boards.

And this also goes to my point about his reactions and instincts. As good as his offensive instincts and rebounding instincts are, his defensive ones are nonexistent. It's like watching someone who is playing basketball for the first time. If I was an NBA journalist with tons of time, I would write a very long and detailed article with tons of gifs on this. Unfortunately, I don't have the programs to make gifs super quickly from NBA League Pass.

I've seen that exact play about 7000 times at the Y or wherever else I play. I'll get beat and just kinda ride my guy a bit to filter him down to one side of the basket so someone down low can smack his shite into the tall grass....but nope. They become a swinging door and just watch the dude dunk on them/us

t was dumb. LeBron wanted Love, so they went and got him. It was a terrible decision at the time, and it's looking even worse now.

Love is a top 15 player in the NBA. I'd take him over Wiggins any time. The Cavs have the pieces to do some damage, and it will take time for them to gel. Come playoff time I expect them to make a run.

I don't fault the Cav's mindset in trading Wiggins for another superstar in an effort to try to win a championship now while they still have a prime Lebron.

But I have always said that Kevin Love is not a true superstar because he plays one-way basketball. The difference between him and say David Lee circa 2009-2012 is really not as large as you would think other than Kevin Love taking more shots and getting to the FT line a little bit more.

No he's not. I used to think he was, but no way. Not even close. In no order, I'd take all of these guys before Love.

Harden
Curry
LeBron
Griffin
Davis
Westbrook
Durant
Ibaka
Gasol
Gasol
Aldridge
Lillard
Duncan
Howard
Melo
Lowry
Wall
Horford

Plenty more. I just starting typing names out. Top 15 offensive player is not the same thing as a Top 15 player.

I said it was a bad move when it happened and got hammered for it. Wiggins today is a better fit than Love today.

Same here.

Just wait until 3 years down the road when Wiggins actually grows into his body. He'll be damn near unstoppable. This is going to be one of the big "what ifs" in NBA history when it's all said and done.

I believe that kid would've killed for Lebron if he asked him to. Oh well.

It isn't a totally outlandish possibility. Kid has looked special lately.

His last 5 games:

Wiggins is gonna be GOOD. No one doubts his scoring skills and he's got the athletic ability and length to be a great defender. The main knock on him was that he didn't have an "alpha" type of personality to want to dominate a game. Looks like he's slowly starting to figure it out.
