I will never again fight at 170
Tonight was the last straw

I'm just not big enough for the weight class
I didn't have to cut any weight, and while I felt fast as frick on my feet, I felt equally overstrengthed on the mat and on the takedowns
When I was offered the fight, I took it at 165. I thought that was strange but said whatever and took it
3 days later they called me and said he insisted on 170. No biggie
I find out tonight from him that he insisted on 170 because he was 205 when he agreed to the fight 7 weeks ago. Said he was about 190 right now
I walked in there tonight at 173 or so. And I wasn't exactly ripped.
I'm just too small to fight decent guys at 170. It's nice not to have to cut any weight, but I give up too much on the ground when guys get on top of me. I have to wekl too damn hard to have any success, then with someone who is known for his strength (like tonight) I really felt weak
No more. Very disappointed with myself. I felt like I didn't even really get to fight. Just landed a few jabs and got caught in a choke. Really frickin sucks

I did not get to watch the fight(don't have AXS). That sucks that you lost. I saw Derrick Krantz fight Dustin Poirier a few years ago in Lafayette. He must have put on some weight. Can you make 155? Oh well, get back on the horse and keep grinding.

Yeah, that dude was huge & y'all definitely looked a weight class or two apart. You looked good on your feet though man, good movement and you were getting in & out nicely.
Random question, but do you even feel those leg kicks or just brush them off? I know he landed a couple and I would've quit immediately....it amazes me how y'all don't even flinch

Nah they were weak
After the fight he was like "dude, I've been working hard on my boxing, and you were 4 inches away from my hands, and I couldn't hit you. I couldn't get close. I would swing as hard as I could, and you would just slide away and show up again in my face. I never throw kicks, but I honestly felt so frustrated that I just had to touch you with something. I know those little kicks didn't hurt you, but at least I made contact"
He told me the gameplan was to work on the feet to see about having success the first round, and work the takedown the second. Said the speed deficit got him off of that gameplan much sooner than expected, and he said "I honestly felt scared at some point because I couldn't see your punches. You would just flinch and tag me."
Good kid, incredibly strong. Like surprising. Only other guy I have ever fought or trained with that had that kind of grappling strength of any weight class was rich Clementi. That includes guys like Shawn Jordan and Chris Lytle. That does not include Matt Hughes. Matt is a freak and his strength is legendary. But rich is right below that, and Derrick was right below rich.
