Why would he want out given what he's due to get if on the roster next season? Kelly is also his last shot at being a starter.

Assuming the story isn't totally made up, further proof that nothing is going on upstairs with the guy.

But why sign Kap where the money could go somewhere else more useful

you are right, there is no sane reason the Jets take on that contract

2016= $13,425,000
2017= $16,900,000
2018= $17,400,000
2019= $21,200,000

Matt Barrows says he's pissed with management for not signing Crabtree, Gore and others and also for the way his injury was handled - not to mention the cultural problem within the organization regarding leaks and throwing people under the bus.

Cam is what Kaepernick should've been. He just stopped developing as a QB for whatever reason.

There's a 2 million de-escalator for every year he isn't all pro or a SB winner.

By comparison, here's Ryan Tannehill's contract
2016 - 11m (part of rookie deal)
2017 - 20m
2018 - 20m
2019 - 21m
2020 - 20m

Kaepernick's contract, if he's a starter, is very low once the de-escalator kicks in. I think people don't realize what mid level guys in the NFL get paid these days. There are 17 QBs who make more than Kaepernick next season. Tom Brady actually makes less because he's taken so much less over the years and Dalton might well get a new deal which would mean every QB on their second or third deal earns more.

I didn't realize he had had enough concussions/head traumas to actually make him think the Jets are a good idea.
