It'll be nice when S.F. and Seattle both have to over pay their qb's and not have enough for the players that actually got them their success.

By the time that happens though Brees will be too far past his prime and the Niners/Seahawks will still beat the Saints.

not only no but frick no.. hell brees, brady and manning's contracts hold their teams for a ransom. Someone might want to remind these guys taking that much money means no one to block or throw to

They have integrity. In the end they will each sign contracts indicative of team players.

Meh...the defense gets better this off season we can legitimately compete with either on the road.

Now I know you remember the game this year, because I still remember your sweet melt right after it.

Why not? Do you think the 49ers would rather Jay Cutler at that price. I'm sure they'd be willing to trade Kaepernick for Cutler.

Idiocy. He has one of the strongest arms in the NFL.
That means nothing. The fact that you point that out leads me to believe that you don't know what qualities good qbs share.
Junk Russell had good arm strength.
Kaep has a slowwwww release. Safeties pounce on that all day. The fact that he has legs gets him out of bad situations. If you get torched by kaep, your d is bad in the secondary. On top of that to ask for $18 mil and you don't throw for 300yds hardly ever; dude wtf???

Kaep might be that level QB one day, but it sure as hell isn't today. I'd let him walk over it.

Stafford, Romo, and Cutler all make at least $17.66 mill per year. If they make that much, there is an argument to be made for Kaep making that much.
I'm not saying the 49ers should pay it though.

his release is fine, he just hasn't developed the ability to step up into the pocket and make strong throws under pressure and he also doesn't always do a good job reading defenses or moving through his progression efficiently. He has improved on both of these but still has aways to go to be elite at either.

This is dumb.
It's like you're criticizing them for drafting well.

Apparently arm strength doesn't matter man. Ask Danny weurffel

I'm sure he wants more than $18m/year. His camp would be inept for not trying given the stupid contracts that have been awarded of late. I don't know why this is news or why people are surprised by it.
He'll end up signing for market value or he'll be moving on.
And wow does he rustle this board's jimmies.
Nailed it, add to that when bargaining you shoot high settle somewhere in between and it seems semi reasonable.
He does deserve more than what he`s currently making , but really needs to prove himself and even though all of this likely spurred by his agents, it's still a really poor time to ask for a raise after shitting the bed last year.

Kaep will get a backloaded contract with a hefty signing bonus. Balke is real firm on paying players for future potential without hurting the future roster. The kid has some room to grow and they have always seen him in SF. They moved up to get him.
I don't blame him for setting the ceiling early. If you let the organization set t then they control the narrative.
He may not be worth 18 mil now...but he has the potential to.
