I'm with ya on that. They desperately needed to sign Hamilton.

They wanted to swallow his seed 1/3 of the way through last year.

Sometimes you have to overpay to win. Time will tell if this will hurt them in the long run.

The thing about the Rangers is they're full of great prospects and think they will be fine. But the thing about prospects is that's all they are, guys who have the potential to be good players. They better hope these prospects pan out...
Profar seems like a sure thing but past that you just never really know. I think sometimes the rangers front office looks ahead to the future to much and forgets about the present

They desperately need to trade a prospect for a bat. Do they honestly expect to lean on Beltre & Cruz to drive in runs? Olt & Profar better be ready.

agreed. And I think they putzed about while other teams simply moved on and remade their teams. The Rangers were in on everybody, and signed nobody. It tells me this is an organization afraid to make a move. The Rangers don't seem willing to remake themselves.

Hamilton, though, was bad for pretty much all of the second half of the season, not just the postseason. But if he finds that first half form? My God.

I'd dangle Martin Perez to the Twins and see if I could replace the HamBone with the Hammer. Solid production, cheaper, and leaves plenty of money to play around with.

Jesus. That would make things worse. Might as well go all in on Olt and Profar, shift Kinsler to CF, and talk to the Royals about giving you Billy Butler or Eric Hosmer.

I'd love to see Billy Butler in that ballpark.

Just saying. Maybe they can mash, but is Pujols going to stay healthy?
I seriously doubt he falls off the cliff that you seem to think he will.

12 seasons and he's never played less than 143 games and never logged fewer than 524 at-bats.

One of the great things the Yankees were able to do is flip their prospects for useful players. Sure, they'd bring up guys like Cano, but their run has been founded on savvy trades of prospects. Sometimes, you gotta cash in.

We will see what happens.

I remember at this time last year when the Rangers were doomed because Wilson and Pujols signed with the Angels.

They will figure things out and make adjustments accordingly.

No need to panic. They will figure it out.

Well that and lock up prospects who proved they could play.... Cano, Jeter, Posada, Williams, Pettite..... a lot of people complained about Yankees payroll but majority at one point was tied into players brought up through the organization.

Really outside of Mike Lowell I can't think of many Yankees prospects dealt that became All-Stars although Austin Jackson looks like one.

Seems like it with a 34 year old Beltre to go with Kinsler and Cruz who have close to the same plate presence as Hamilton.

Are Beltre and cruz going to stay healthy? It's not like they are the models of good health.

Better yet, Will Cruz even hit?

Can Beltre keep up his pace with no protection around him? His career shows that he can not. Guess we"ll see.

Since when is pujols injury prone?

I mean LAA now has arguably the 2 top RH hitters in baseball, and the best LH hitter in baseball. You can pretend they have all theses questions(omg will they trade Trumbo for pitching?? Really dude? That's a bad problem to have....lol) but their lineup is yoked and they have 3 legitimate starters in Weaver/CJ//Hanson

Terrible post on twitter. Torri Hunter had a career year with an OPS+ of 132....at age 36. I HIGHLY doubt he is going to reproduce those numbers.

eta: I also hate total WAR because I have little faith in defensive metrics as of right now. If you compare their oWAR its 4.0 for Hunter and 4.4 for JHAM

Beltre will be fine.

I don't trust Cruz or Kinsler. Kinsler was flat out terrible last year. I hope they move him off leadoff and let Elvis hit there. Kinsler would be more useful as a No. 6 hitter.

I do think the Rangers have contingency plans. I'll be interested to see what moves they make.

Weaver is awesome. No doubt.

Wilson had a terrible second half. I'm not convinced he is even a No. 2

Hanson's velocity and arm health are points of concern. If he doesn't have a good year, they are in trouble.

Lets see Pujols has played in 154,147,159,160, and 148 games the past 5 seasons....

Beltre 156, 124,154,111, and 143 games played the past 5 seasons....

Hamilton has had his injuries but so has pretty much everyone on the Rangers...

Fair points.

Keep in mind how terrible Hamilton was defensively last year. He was very, very bad. Maybe he will DH a lot for Anaheim.
