I think everyone expected it, but it finally happened.

Yankees in on Lester with a late and large offer...

Now he's said money isn't the determining factor, but I never really believed it in the first place...and certainly don't now that the yankees are ponying up.

Felt pretty good about the cubs chances until 21 minutes ago.

It would have to be close to 150 million if they come in this late and actually believe they have a chance. I still think it's a BoSox/Cubs race with him returning to Boston for the lowest amount of the three.

I would expect that's where it ends up no matter which team it is.

Buster posey believes there will be no home town discount and gammons today said he thought it'd be the cubs because the red sox low balled him, traded him, then wanted him back with another lowball offer. I think the phrasing he used was it's like getting married, then divorced and then remarried. It just doesn't happen often.

and then of course the yankees jumped in.

He is/was one of my favorite Sox players, but he's 31, let the Yankees overspend for a pitcher moving away from his prime. 150 is insane for Lester honestly.

I don't think so...not in the new CBA/FA

Or at least it's not so outlandish that you just wash your hands of him because that's the winning offer.

I think he comes back to Boston at around 6 years 140.

Jay's are getting good

The Seattle Mariners have traded outfielder Michael Saunders to the Toronto Blue Jays for left-handed pitcher J.A. Happ, according to a source familiar with the deal.

Ha Ha, the Jays are a fourth place team. They have no pitching.

They're missing an ace but it's not as bad as you're making it out to be. Don't be surprised if Hutchinson breaks out next year.

Cubs will prevail

If he looks at the big picture the Cubs are on the rise and will be major players in the next 2 years

RA DIckey
Mark Buerhle
Marcus Stroman
Marco Estrada
Drew Hutchison

Then they have Kyle Drabek who is a decent back of the rotation starter and Stroman/Estrada/Hutchison are all young enough to break out

I have no expectations on Drabek's career anymore but that's a solid rotation. If one of Hutchinson or Stroman breaks out, they might not need an ace. And let's not forget about Sanchez, who has a front line arm as well.

I think there is almost no chance he re-signs with the red sox. If I'm him, I'm thinking what they did to Francona, the fiasco with Valentine, signing hanley ramirez AND about the lowball offer.
Problem is, the cubs are going nowhere and the Yankees are on their way down, IMO. Will be interesting to see what happens. Hope I'm wrong.
If he signs with the sox, it will be because of Farrell and Cherington, and despite Henry and the ownership crew. Again, hope I'm wrong
