He was one of the best

could do it all, no matter what they asked of him, or where he chose to further his career path.

Damn....

Anyone else catch Dickie V on Russillo&Kannel just now? He broke down pretty hard.

RIP John! One of the GOAT humans.

Very sad. Pretty much grew up watching him. Would get up early and watch him host The Sports Reporters before football came on at noon.

Seemed like a really great guy.

If anyone has a link to that I would "like" to hear it. I wouldn't like to hear it at all actually, but I feel like I should hear it.

This is so sudden it's surreal. John Saunders was by all counts one of ESPN's finest.

RIP to a pro's pro.

Pretty bad for his wife and kids that's for sure.

I liked him as a broadcaster and on the Sports Reporters as the lead in. He let people talk w/o interpreting alot unlike Lupica.

That said, he was almost always talking race or women's issues during his parting shots. I stopped watching that show mostly because of Lupica, but Saunders parting shots were way too political. I think he even had to issue some retractions over accusations he levied over the years.

Holy shite. Just listened to the Dickie V interview.

My god. I wish I hadn't listened to be honest. He really breaks down hard.

Was he on Sports Reporters Sunday? If so, that would've been the last time

I had to Google also.. Funny there seems to always be a large majority of ESPN haters on this board but when a thread like this is started everyone comes out of the wood work.

Many people who dislike ESPN now, such as myself, dislike it for what it has become. Chances are if you dislike it now it's bc you loved the way it used to be

Having been there for 30 years, Saunders certainly represents what ESPN used to be

But nice try
