re: JFF lighting up his pro day

The main thing to worry about with JFF or any QB like him is what makes him great is also likely to make him miss games. That's why if I were a pro scout, I'd still prefer primarily pro-style QBs who had decent feet over straight up dual threats.
Sure, the dual threat can kill defenses when in the game but QB is a special position for two reasons.
1)It's damned hard to have TWO legit dual threat QBs on your team meaning if #1 goes down, your team is thrown into turmoil
2)This forces you to want to put a guy like JFF in a box which pretty much negates what makes him great in the first place.
JFF is not a big guy. RBs are designed to take a lot of punishment and most of them miss games. NFL teams are much more prepared to have their star RB out 2-3 games a year than they are their QB.
Finally, a good point I heard on the radio once. A dual threat QB will decline rapidly if what makes him great is his feet(even if a great thrower) because everyone slows with age. You end up with a QB that has the shelf life of a RB. Unfortunately, the reality is that with the exceptions aside, most QBs develop into their best QB skills with 4-5 years of experience. For the dual threat guy, this means the decline in physical tools end up negating his better football abilities.
A pocket passer can get slower and it barely affects his game. When Cam gets slower, he'll be pretty average.

Hijack incoming:
That one game makes for a mighty big sample size

That game plus two against us, plus you might argue this year against Auburn too. I see where they're coming from

Those are all great points and I agree. He will have to strike a balance between the improv and staying within the offense otherwise he will expose himself big time. He was pretty good at avoiding big hits while scrambling in college but the NFL is a whole different ball game.
It will be interesting to see how effective guys like Kaepernick and Cam are down the road based on what you said

Of course, if you want me to play the card I really think about Oregon, I'd just point out that Oregon had a beast of a time against AU when AUs defense blew chunks all year in the SEC. Just sayin.

Yeah. I'm interested to see because it makes sense to me. Brady's game is essentially unchanged today vs 10 years ago. Same for Manning's.
But, Colin and Cam are both going to get slower and banged up. That's just NFL reality. For RBs, that usually means career decline at age 30. But, the NFL is used to the QBs hitting their groove at about age 30.

He wasn't a pure drop back passer 10 years ago?
Sure. He's a shade slower than then and scrambles a bit less. But, he was drop back then, he's drop back now.
Completely false!!

Theres more differences in a QBs game than just being a scrambler and a pocket passer.
Hes a very different QB from 10 years ago mechanically.

Idk why everyone is so hyped about a pro day. He's just throwing passes. If I go outside and complete some passes will I get a try out for a pro team?

If you can throw like he can you might!

Pro days are completely worthless from a fan perspective - scout may gain something by it, but the public learns nothing.

Johnny doesn't have a purple drink problem, so I think he's good there.

neither did JM before his pro-day and actually had less off the field issues than JFF at that point, so.....

top five picks shouldn't use hover hands

You apparently don't know the meaning of hover hands. I sentence you to two hours of reading only the O-T.
