But he won a gold glove! Even I could have a perfect fielding pct if I made no effort to get to a ball if it wasn't going to roll right to me.

I seriously doubt he has the range of Granderson.

I don't get what all the fuss about. It's not like Cashman came out and said "oh yeah, we're going to switch Granderson and Jeter around."

He said it was something that if they had to do in the future due to Jeter not being able to play SS anymore, they would look into it because he thinks it would be a good fit.

People blow shite way out of proportion.

FTR, Granderson would be faster but he is not known as a great outfielder. Jeter, with some practice, would be a good defensive outfielder.

The point is would his offensive production warrant a corner outfield position ,which is typically a "slugger" position, at this point in his career? I would say no.

Cashman basically said that he wouldn't really consider Jeter playing LF or RF due to his lack of slugging.

Chances are he MAY play one year in the OF. As wass already said, everyone is blowing this out of proportion Cashman only said it was an option in the final year(s) of his 3 year (4th year is an option I think for Jeter, but it may be the club, I didn't see which one).

From today

quote:

Cashman created a stir in responding to a question at a fan event last week in Times Square when he said that Jeter was more likely to move to center field than third base if a position switch is required during his contract, which spans through 2014.

quote:

"Derek's a shortstop and Derek is not going to move to another position," Posada said. "He hasn't even started playing this year and you're talking about four years from now. You can't see the future."

he is too old and not athletic enough to play SS, but they think he can play CF?

How many 37-38 year olds are playing CF?

how many of them for the first time?

I find it amazing that Jeter is such a "leader", but he would hurt the team because his ego is too big to move to another position. It happened when they made ARod, who at the time was a top 3 defensive SS, move to 3B. In a couple years he will have the range of a high school SS, but he will likely bitch and complain if the Yankees try to move him.

i really dont think Jeter's ego will allow him to move to the OF

hell, he couldnt move to 3B for the superior Alex Rodriguez

lol wut?

2009: 8 errors which was a career low, and a .986 fielding pct which tied his personal best.
2010: 6 errors which was a career low, and a .989 fielding ct which was a personal best.

How is that too old and not athletic enough? I'd say that's more than getting the job done at SS.
