Jerry Rice accuses the Patriots of cheating, while he admits to using Stickum

Please stop talking, Jerry

quote:

‘I’m going to be point blank, I feel like it’s cheating,” Rice told Rome on January 22. “Because you have an edge up on your opponent and its unfortunate that it happened. I’m not saying the outcome of the game would have been different or anything like that because they got beat 45-7, but they still had an edge.”

In that same interview, Rice added, “I’ve played in cold weather, I know how hard the football is and you can grip the leather [if deflated] just a little bit better.”

When it comes to playing football in any conditions, the challenge becomes not only throwing it but catching it. And in the ESPN segment narrated by Jim Trotter, Rice nonchalantly made a stunning (in hindsight) confession: Rice put stickum on his gloves.

“I know this might be a little illegal, guys, but you put a little spray, a little stickum on them, to make sure that texture is a little sticky,” Rice said, laughing.

It wasn’t a little illegal, it was a lot illegal. As explained in the ESPN feature, gloves were introduced to football after the NFL decided to outlaw the stuff that guys like Fred Biletnikoff and Lester Hayes (pictured) would spread copiously on their hands, and elsewhere. Rice admitted in the feature that he enhanced the surface of gloves approved for use in the NFL with a substance that would make it easier to catch the ball.

Man, you guys are gonna be pissed when basically nothing happens to the Patriots.

I wonder if Goodell will leak that too, or just pretend he knows nothing about it when it comes out the Pats didn't do anything wrong.

Let's just agree that a) every team and (just about) every player is looking to exploit every possible edge, borderline shady or not and b) it's not national security so, unless you're a degenerate gambler, just enjoy the show.

All these old dynasties are just mad that the Pats got to 4 Super Bowls more impressively than they did

And did it this year with the Youngest team to ever win the Super Bowl

Oh yeah, we coming for more

I think you feel a little insecurity that people will be able to say the patriots never won a single super bowl under brady or Bill where they did not get caught cheating

I give zero fricks about that. People can talk all they want, they still know where those Lombards reside

While they might be mad, how did the Patriots get to 4 more impressively?

Absent something major, like paying players to give you the plays from the other team or point shaving or whatever, it's tough to get bent out of shape about these "violations".

I mean, it's football. The sport where players are doping themselves up with HGH or rhinoceros piss or whatever the latest performance enhancer is.

Sure, I'll laugh along with everyone else if the Pats get docked a pick but that's all this. Entertainment.

Football has a lot deeper issues than whether Brady likes his balls at 12.4999 PSI instead of 12.5 or the greatest WR ever used Stickum.

Over a long period of time in the salary cap era

The salary cap is a fair point, but a decade between 3 and 4 with 2 Super Bowl losses doesn't seem more impressive than what anybody else did IMO.

The stock gloves worn today are 10x stickier than any amount of Stickum on Neumanns. It's not even close.

That makes it MORE impressive. They did it with a completely different team in what turned out to be somewhat of a different era with the different rule changes
