Is that good policy to bench your best RB because a defenders helmet hit the ball perfectly to knock it out of his grasp?
It's not like he was being careless with the ball.

You should never bench the best RB in the league.

Bench him for fumbling but keep Andy Dalton in the game for being Andy Dalton. STRATEGERY!
Hill needs to get back into the game. Don't they know I started him in the flex??

Unless he hits his kid with a twig...

It's probably not a good policy if he's much better than the other guy. But Are you sure he was benched? The other guy had been getting carries before the fumble too.

It's pretty clear Cincinnati doesn't know what they have in Jeremy Hill, despite being aware of his alma mater.
He's not your everyday crapperware.

Agree 100%. Kid is a rookie and that was kind of a fluke fumble. Why not bench Dalton for playing like the worst QB in the NFL for the entire first half?

the other thing that kills me about RB's being benched for fumbles is that it's completely arbitrary as to who recovers the ball once it's fumbled - offense or defense.
It seems to me that a fumble is a fumble is a fumble. Yet when the offense recovers the fumble and retains possession (something totally out of the fumbler's hands) the offending player is rarely punished. In fact, you often see the coach giving him a good-natured pep talk on the sideline.
Yet if the opposing team recovers the fumble (totally out of the fumbler's hands) you often see the same fumbler on the sideline with his helmet in his hand, a downcast look on his face.
Football coaches are pretty fricking stupid is I guess my point.
